Karlos started following Electrical issue - Jaguar XK 2005 (pre production model)

Hello, Can anyone help me, please? I have an electrical issue with my Jaguar XK 4.2 V8. Long story short, I started to experience some electrical gremlins but wasn't overly worried. One afternoon, when returning to the car, it wouldn’t start, the lights were flashing, and the key got locked in the insert. I tried to jump-start the car, but I think I did this wrong. The RAC came and said I had blown my 400-amp mega fuse, probably trying to jump-start it, but I don't think this was the original problem. The car has since been towed and the fuse replaced, but I am still experiencing some electrical issues with the car not being able to start unless the battery is disconnected and reconnected several times. After the incidents and watching a YouTuber "Life on Cars," I recently checked and had to splice the earth cable under the drivers wheel arch. The RAC man and the garage said there's nothing wrong with the battery, but when I put a multimeter on it, it read 11.92V. Does this warrant a new battery? I would be grateful for any help. Many Thanks

Hi Luc, you are aware that there is a dedicated tab on this Forum for sales? It is at the bottom of the opening page, you have to scroll down past the technical query sections to get to it. You have just posted your car fro sale in the "Introductions" tab, where it will very quickly be subsumed and not many folks are going to be looking for "For Sale" vehicles in the Introductions section. Just saying, you may want to repost into the correct tab. N6 JMX

Hi Rob, if you have read this thread, it tells you above how to manually lower and raise the convertible top. Check the handbook at around page 111. Since your profile does not contain a location, no-one will know where abouts you reside, so your other question on cost to rebuild the cylinders is a touch moot. You will need to locate a suitable hydraulics workshop to assess and check the cylinders, once you have them removed from the vehicle. N6 JMX

Engine light/restricted perform/misfire on #2/covered in oil
Gala posted a topic in Guides & Reviews
On a 2003 jag s type 3.0 v6 4 door...check engine light / restricted performance/ cleaned the sensors/ throttle body actuator clip fell apart/no accelerator response/ while looking at the engine right side coil packs after the 3rd one, found a open hole ??? Into the engine. (Didn't think that right no sensor on the wiring harness for that location, looking at that side as example.... I put a plug in it. ) / the clip and no manual held me up for 3 weeks trying to get replacement with little funds. Online or napa $5.- $125. ( Part numbers I did find didn't translate to auto store part numbers) /so with no clip just squeezed wire ends so they stayed on the pins of the throttle body/ orange wire on top grn on bottom/had accel response yeppie/then put the code reader again/ now #2 misfire on ond meter. Check the coil pack on #2 it's saturated in oil, check the other 2 on that bank also saturated in oil ???/ Cleaned out the oil and coil packs/ put engine cleaner via gas thru it runs better still cuts out if I accell to fast and still a rough idle/Have not removed the manifold to check the left bank of coil packs has oil in them as well (not without a repair manual and gasget replacements)/ now however the check engine light is flashing now along with the red warning light on the dash still restricted perform. That's the sequence of troubleshooting this far. Have gotten responses....new engine/ blown worn head gasket / piston rings / to the catalytic converter/ me... the plug I put in (matching the other ones???)... filling the hole...couldn't find anything as to what should be there really...Any suggestions asap greatly appreciated. Thanks G. -

I can now report that this car has been sold to a guy looking to get it back on the road rather than break it for parts. So that's one more future classic saved. 🙂

Go to the Kwik Fit website and locate the "Batteries" tab, enter your registration number and post code, then press search. The website does all the work for you and then you can do a search for the best price for the battery you select - do not have to purchase from Kwik Fit. Note that the most important attribute to your selected replacement should be dimensions. It MUST fit into the battery tray and be held securely in place, it would be an MoT failure if not secured. Hi… iv managed to get hold of a laptop with SDD, and iv been playing around with it cos iv got the bits to fit a heated steering wheel to my 250 XF, but it appears that i might have to have SDD in engineering mode to update the CCF. How do i go about getting a code or a key generator to generate a code?

Hi Steve, well done you and welcome to the wonderful world of XKR motoring - I am sure you will enjoy it immensely. If you are looking for an XK marque specific club to join for outings and gatherings, I would recommend the XKCC, there is a coordinator in your area and you will find them at: Home | XKCC N6 JMX- 8 replies
