I know winter is usually a dark grey sort of time of year with plenty of rain, wind, and bad weather leaving us little choice but to hunker down in front of a TV watching archived film clips of our favourite cars on TopGear..

In south-east UK we don't do this - we organise our bi-annual Brighton convoy & meet!

This years winter meet is happening on Sunday 7th December - with a convoy travelling down from Pease Pottage Services to Madiera Drive, everyone parking up in one huge block of cars, followed by a fixed price big breakfast to set us up for the morning. I am in the process of organising what I can and a full itinery will be listed in the next few weeks including all and any costs there may be.. so you know everything you need to know before the event.

It's a great chance for you to have a break from the Christmas rush and shopping and to have some time with great company, fantastic cars, a mug of tea and something to eat..

Please note that with this being the Winter meet it is open to other marques - with a warm Jaguar welcome for everyone.

In case you are wondering - this will be the third Bi-Annual Brighton meet and the details of the last one can be found here: UK South East Meet Spring/Summer 2014 in Brighton if you want to check it out..Just so you know who has indicated an interest (in no particular order) in attending on the day, so far it looks like this....

If you would like to be added please just make a post saying so (or if non member email me at JaguarForumsUK@solidlinux.co.uk to be added) and I will be very happy to add you to the list.

Listed below are Car details plus occupants (inc driver) where we have the info.

Hi guys - sorry I've been quiet last few days but have had (and still have) 'manflu' :-) and have been out of things for a short while
but not to worry I'll be back to my usual levels of activity inside the next few days:-) I still have yet to talk to the auto box repair
specialists, and see what price I can get set for the fixed price meal deal but I'll be doing that over the next week.. as soon as I know more on these I'll post it up..

It's fantastic to see the degree of support we have for these bi-annual meetings! Thankyou :-)

The winter one is a trade off between potentially variable winter weather, and food, mugs of tea, good company and a break from the Christmas rush.. something we all need I think :-)

We have six weeks to go currently until the day.. so over the next couple of weeks I will be getting the price of the big breakfast plus mugs of tea sorted, making contact with the autobox specialist, and touching base with Tony at Harwoods Jaguar to confirm what car he will be bringing along on the day.

So within the next three weeks we will hopefully have the full itinery up on here, along with all the costings for the parking and the food (so those of us on a budget know exactly what we are looking at :-))..

Looking at the amount of interest so far I believe it's going to be a similar sized convoy and meet to the summer one which will be great - and will give us a fair chance at having a crack at getting Jaguar involved next summer (yes, I'm not letting go of the Jaguar sponsorship chasing yet a while :-))

Currently we have cars spanning 46 years of Jaguar production coming along - an incredible thing to manage, and a great photo opportunity for a lot of us :-) The initial convoy meet will, if similar to last time take over quite a large chunk of the services car park, and the convoy down the A23 and through the centre of Brighton will make quite an impact.

We will be parking up in a solid block not far from The Jag gallery (the owner has an E-Type!) which will be open for viewing for those of us who want some culture, we'll be having a big breakfast taking over the Seagull restaurant, a great chance to check out the showroom car that will be coming, & hopefully have a chat about any gearbox issues with the autobox specialists..

I can't control the weather but will do my best to ensure a great day for everyone :-)

Anyone wanting to come along that hasn't signed up yet - why not put your name forward? The event is free, any and all costs for parking and food will be listed in advance and kept as low as possible, and its a good chance to meet up with everyone you see online and put faces to names and cars..

OK, I have managed to get the fixed price meal deal sorted.. after the couple of problems we had at the Seagull Restaurant at the last meet I have moved us to the 'Madiera Cafe', just a little further down Madiera Drive, for the December meet. I have negotiated their price down to match the fixed price we had at the last meet of £5 per person for breakfast with tea/coffee. I'll update you as I go with everything else
:-)

Tony from Harwoods Jaguar has confirmed that as long as it is not sold in the meanwhile he will be bringing a showroom F-Type V8 Coupe along on the day for us.

Additionally Jaguar World Monthly will hopefully carry our event, and I am waiting on the VisitBrighton website to confirm carrying our event..

Oh yes, I am also having another go at trying to get us in the local press for this as that would potentially give us a huge boost.

The VisitBrighton tourism website has confirmed the meet is now officially listed  - Jaguar World Monthly has emailed to say we should be listed there (subject to the usual) in the next issue, and I am waiting to hear back from the Brighton Argus...

Just to let you guys know - there has been some discussion on JaguarForums.com regarding the legal side of running a convoy.. and I need to tell you that as of now there will not be a convoy component to this event. However we will instead be completing a 'Social Run' component which will be how we all travel from Pease Pottage Services to Madiera Drive icon_smile.gif

So from everyone's perspective everything is still the same and happening no problem, but we are changing the terminology and avoiding the potential need to charge for entry - something I am very much against doing. I believe this event should be free to attend, and any costs during the meet kept as low as possible to enable more people to attend and enjoy it..

OK guys, I have spent the morning rooting around a number of resources regarding the legal issues of the convoy part of this event and I believe all is OK - we don't have a fixed, laid out route apart for the A23 going to the outskirts of Brighton, there is no competitive element and in both cases we fall out of what appears to be current legislation..

We now have a social run component to the meet which covers things further still. I am now aware of what I have to come in the next couple of years as this event grows but it's in the future and I'll no doubt sort it when the time comes.

Sooo I am going back to my to-do list and cracking on with making sure they are done in time.. as soon as I know more about what we can organise for the day I will let you know.. I am currently in progress with the itinery, encouraging the autobox specialist to come along, chasing the local newspaper for coverage and trying to organise welcome packs for everyone. The meal deal is organised, Harwoods Jaguar are onboard, Brighton Tourism & Jaguar World Monthly are listing us as an official event, and the list of attendees is growing :-)

OK, *finally* I can officially put the legal issues to bed.. I have the response from MSA in my email and it goes as follows:

Dear Steve,

If the event is non-competitive (such as a touring assembly) and using the public highway, there are no restrictions. If there is a competitive element, even if the competition is on different venues off the public highway & you are
just moving from one venue to another – Route Authorisation from this office will be required.

Kind Regards
David Powell

That's it lol... I am satisfied that we *totally* conform to the regulations and am getting back to everything else icon_smile.gif

Ok guys, we are all systems go.. I'm still working on things here but we have a great opportunity for anyone wanting a break from the Christmas rush - our Bi-Annual Social Run and Meet!

A chance for some time by the seaside (OK I admit it is winter..) a big breakfast, mug of tea or coffee, some great conversation with like minded company, and a chance to look around Jaguars ranging from a 1968 Mk2 through to the latest Jaguar Supercars and even my 'Classic' X-Type should you want to lol

Currently we have Harwoods Jaguar in attendance on the day and I am working to try to get newspaper coverage and the local AutoBox Specialist to come along and discuss any issues or queries you may have.

If you are undecided - why not come along anyway and get a taste of the event and if you like it you'll only have five months to go until our May event which will without a doubt be even bigger :-)

You know you only need an excuse to clean and polish your car, and to show it off to other like minded people.. why not put your name forward and come along?

The event is close to the pier and not far at all from the city centre shops making it suitable for petrolheads or families.. even if you have a dog, the location is great for walking your dog..

You know this is the perfect excuse for some you and your car time, or your family and car time... why not put your name forward by posting here?

OK today has been a little quieter (I *have* to do some genuine work at work :-)) but I have been following up with The Brighton Argus newspaper and some useful to know companies that I am hoping will want to supply materials for the welcome packs.. I will update you as I go but yet again I'm not holding my breath :-)

Posted

Good news - I can confirm that not only will we have Tony from 'Harwoods Jaguar' in attendance with a showroom car, but also Kevin from 'The Automatic Gearbox Centre' will be attending to chat with anyone regarding queries, problems, or just plain curiosity questions about Jaguar Auto Gearboxes. Please make good use of both of them whilst we have them available to us :-)

I was already considering looking into if we could get someone from TopGear down for the May meet  - quite possibly might not manage it but I was considering giving it a go.... let me know what you guys think OK?..

Meanwhile we are in the last few weeks countdown to the December meet.. Anyone wondering whether to come along
or not, undecided as to if you should - why not sign up for it? We have Harwoods Jaguar bringing a showroom car along, a local automatic gearbox specialist attending to answer any questions or worries you may have about your transmission, fixed price big breakfast plus tea/coffee for just £5, a convoy or 'social run' you can participate in, parking in Madiera Drive at £1 an hour, great company, fantastic cars, and a chance to be in the group photo's of this meet!

What's to not like? Come on, it's that perfect excuse for cleaning your car, actually cruising for just the sake of cruising, and a great day... just pop a post up on here, or email me at stephen.sheldon@solidlinux.co.uk, or p.m. me... but don't miss out on this great break from the Christmas rush!

Still no feedback regarding newspaper coverage so I have spent this morning hitting a number of suppliers of services and products, that we all use, to see what I can do for the Welcome Packs - I know the Welcome Packs were very thin at the last meet and I want to try to ensure that they actually contain items of real interest or use from this meet on.. I'll let you know how I go :-)

I know winter is usually a dark grey sort of time of year with plenty of rain, wind, and bad weather leaving us little choice but to hunker down in front of a TV watching archived film clips of our favourite cars on TopGear..

In south-east UK we don't do this - we organise our bi-annual Brighton social run & meet!

This years winter meet is happening on Sunday 7th December - with a social run down from Pease Pottage Services to Madiera Drive, Brighton, everyone parking up in one huge block of cars (parking £1 per hour, £4 for the morning, or £7 for the day), followed by a fixed price big breakfast (£5.00 per person inc tea/coffee) to set us up for the morning. I am in the process of organising what I can and a full itinery will be listed next week including all and any exact costs there may be.. so you know everything you need to know before the event.

As promised (subject to the usual..) here's the itinerary for the day - I suspect the timings may change a little but this is fundamentally it - noting that we have Kevin and Tony with us for any questions you may have for them regarding our cars *and* that the owner of 'The Jag Gallery' is opening on the day to give us the opportunity to visit and have a look around should anyone want to. The owner has an E-Type, hence the name of his gallery :-)

The days itinerary is listed below for your info, so you know when you need to be where...

08:15 Meet at Pease Pottage Service Station at the base of the M23.
08:20 Initial 'Welcome to the Event' greeting, and packs handed out.
08:30 Depart in convoy for Brighton (cruising speed 65mph)
09:15 Park up in one large parking block in Madiera Drive.
09:30-10:30 Big Breakfast in Madiera Cafe (b/fast + tea/coffee for £5 only)
10:30 General social events etc. start
11:30 Group signings of banner, and group photos for the forums

The parking is pay and display at this location and is £1 for an hour, £2 for two hours, £4 for four hours, or £7 for 11 hours (I would suggest for most people the £4 parking option will be sufficient).

Your meal will be £5.00 per person.. so hopefully no shocks or surprises if you are on a budget

Lastly.... I *am* still working on some other things that may well add to this schedule :-)
