Hello,

I've got a 2006 2.7d S Type Sport, it's covered 70,000 Miles and it has recently developed a very annoying squeak from the rear suspension.

After reading several forums online, I decided that it was most likely the drop links. So, I went out and bought a set, fitted them tonight and no joy. Still getting the squeak.. I also tried while the rear wheels were off, soaking all bushes I could find in two tins of silicone spray! Once again, no joy.

Granted, the drop links were shot. So I'm glad I've replaced them. I don't however have any idea what to do next! The amount of parts on each side that could be squeaking is ridiculous!!!

About the squeak; it's very high pitched. It's constant when driving along.. The smallest ripple in the road and it screeches! It sounds like an old bed.

It sounds when pushing on the rear quarter. It sounds on getting in and out. It even sounds on putting it in gear as it creeps forward (auto)..

As previously mentioned, I've drowned all bushes in silicone spray, no joy. I've put on brand new drop links, no joy.

The track rod bushes seem worn, but not massively so.

What shall I try next?! Any Jaguar Techs on here with the knowledge? Or any common faults I've missed? I know the drop links are the most common..

Any replies greatly appreciated.

Cheers in advance,

Tom

Welcome to the club, Tom

There are quite a few knowledgeable members who will assist if they can.

I hope I don't get the same squeak in my 2.7D SE, as my solution for squeaks is WD40.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Tom, totally different model I know but had a similar experience with an X Type 2003 tried everything that I thought it could be and it was still there, it ended up being a little 's' shaped control arm on the rear suspension.

Now, like I say, its a different model but is there anything like it in the S Type suspension, I would imagine it is still called a control arm.

I have a 2011 XF and have the same problem. The shock absorber and spring has been removed and checked and all bushes have been lubricateed but even after 3 weeks the squeak is still there.

Did you get to the bottom of the squeak?

I had exactly the same problem on my 2004 2.5L S-type SE+ and it turned out to be one of the rear shock absorbers. I had both sides replaced (plus discs & pads) by my local indie, and that cured the problem.

I got my fingers through the spring to touch the shock absorber, and got someone to (gently) compress the suspension (fingers!) and I could feel that it was shot. Obviously I compared that with the opposite side to confirm my suspicions..

I must admit I was somewhat surprised as the car's only got 41K on the clock.

Cheers, Mark

I have just replaced the rear shocks and suspension bushes on mine Mark when the same test at the indy i used confirmed rear shock on drivers side was

shot and causing the squeak.

Thanks for your help. My independent chap has already stripped the shocker and spring and re-fixed after bench testing and still no joy. He was confident it was the shocker

We have used a stethoscope and he is now stripping the "control" arm that acts , I think,  like a rear anti roll bar as the squeak was more pronounced when using the stethoscope on this.,

Fingers crossed he finds it. If not it's replace all rear bushes and there are a lot of them
