Good Morning All,

I've joined the forum last night having spent quite a lot of time reviewing various topics and discussions. I must say i've found the site incredibly helpful and has certainly helped in my decision to p/x my RR Sport and buy an XF D S Portfolio '12 plate. All things being well I take delivery on Saturday and am looking forward to an exciting, comfortable and certainly less expensive driving and running costs experience!

I must admit I have concerns around winter driving having switched from a 4x4 but that's only a couple of weeks of the year!

My XF doesn't have front parking sensors (forgot to check when I bought) so am also a little concerned about the limited visibility over the 'bulge'!

This doesn't temper my excitement though!

Simon,

Welcome, I'm sure you'll find the Jag most enjoyable . Are you sure yours doesn't have front parking sensors? I would have thought it would have been standard for that year. But if not it won't be any great problem I'm sure .

Don't worry about winter driving, in fact don'

t worry full stop !

The peeps on here are a friendly lot and will give help whenever possible.

Hi Trevor,

I had assumed it would have the front sensors too... it was only after i'd taken it out for a drive and placed the deposit and driving home did I realise that i'd forgotten to ask. It has the rear sensors but not the front apparently... Hey ho! i'll just turn the sound system up when parking so as not to hear the 'crunch'!

Thanks for the welcome

Welcome to the Club, Simon.

I am glad you have found some of the comments helpful.  That is what the club is about  ---   sharing experiences which help and assist.

Prior to getting my S Type  --  which is the predecessor of the XF  -- I had an all wheel drive X Type, which was incredible in the snow and I had the same misgivings, but found the rear wheel drive with DSC extremely surefooted.

I never had front sensors till I got the S type 14 months ago, and admit to finding them rather useful.  Previous to that and with 30 years of company cars I found a technique to determine the distance of the wall from the font bumper  -- I hung a table tennis ball from a string and when it touched the windscreen I knew I was 12 inches from the wall.  Once you established that, the distance stuck in your memory.

The JOC is a friendly club and all members do share the Jaguar experience, which is really the pride in driving an iconic make of car.

Regards,

Peter.

Simon,

I would be very surprised it it hasn't , you sure it wasn't just turned off?

And I'm sure if my Jag can mange Exmoor yours will manage up T' North ( not being insulting by the way, it's a standing joke with Peter and myself) .

ATB,

Trevor.

Thanks for the tennis ball tip - i'll give that a go.

I'll double check when I pick it up but either way it's not going to change my mind... will just be more selective about parking spaces!

No offence taken whatsoever... i'm Welsh but just live in the East Midlands so am used to a lot of banter... especially around six nations time!

Simon,

Welsh? I was brought up in the valleys (Risca), but as my mother didn't want me to be born Welsh I had the misfortune of being born in Liverpool where her mother lived .

Hi Simon and Trevor,

I have just had a check on the front parking sensors on the XF D S Portfolio and while the rear sensors are standard, the from sensors seem to be an optional extra.  "View Pack"

Peter/Simon,

Oh well not to worry, it isn't the end of the world.

Being brought up in Wales is where I got my love of rugby from, and I still follow Newport to this day.

Thanks for checking Peter, appreciate it.

Cardiff is my hometown and all my family are still there, played (badly) for St. Josephs for years myself but it's Cardiff Blues for me... though my English team has been Northampton for the past 15 or so years.

Hi Simon and welcome to the club.

We'd love to see some pics of the new motor.
