I own a 2008 xkv8 the paintwork is bublbling in 2 places. A small patch about 1 inch square at the bottom of the drivers door and another smaller patch on the edge of the boot lid. What Is the best course of action?

.It is my intention to run the car in summer only. Whilst the battery is trickle charging over the winter months do I need to dis-connect the battery from the car?

I have only had the car since June 2014 but it has been well looked after by the previous 1 owner. It has done 67000 miles and has full Jag main dealer service history.

This is my first convertible Jag although I have had MX5's before, however there is just no comparison whatsoever between the two makes. I have done over 2000 miles and according to the instruments on the car have been getting 26 mph despite driving it hard at times. The car is seriously quick and a wonderful drive.

My intentions are to keep the XK until depreciation makes  the F type affordable (5 years)?

Hi Robert,

I would be inclined to leave the battery in the car, if you are garaging it at your own home, and charge it once a month.

On the question of the paintwork bubble, there are two courses of acton I would choose from, without seeing it, of course.

The first is to sand it down, give it a good undercoat and repaint, and the second is to take it to a good body shop and get it done professionally.

Robert,

I looked at the F type, but they only had the 3 litre version available, had the F Type R 5 litre on show and it was going to be £93K , so like you I'd though i'd wait a bit for depreciation before buying one .

I have since bought the XKR, and is it fantastic ! I have now changed my mind about the F Type as I prefer the XKR, it is a good looking car and is also more practicable .

It is identical to this one except mine has Ivory interior .

everyone I meet remarks what a stunning car it is , so I wouldn't be to hasty about the F Type .

Charlie,

Very nearly bought the F Type, but as i said they only had the dinky toy engine and the wife said I would only want the 5 litre if I bought it and wouldn't be satisfied so I got the XKR.

I like the XKR more and more every day, and have now lost interest in the F Type, don;t get me wrong, a very good car, but prefer the XKR in every way .

And of course your XK is going to be better than a couple of German Taxis !

I'm not sure what this thread has to do with X-Types. confused.gif

The original post was concerning an XK8, with a specific problem concerning paint bubbling, and requesting advice.  The original post post also referred to a comparison between several models, and comments with regard to that topic also received some interest, with owners of one of the models in question offering advice.

I am aware that the topic was raised in the X Type forum, but I am not in the business of chiding a new member for posting a topic that could apply to any car in a forum titled "X Type Club".

I hope that clarifies your comment.

Peter,

Indeed the, the OP raised a question about an XK, and the following discussion was mainly about XKs. I thought this would be of more interest in the XK forum rather than the X-Type forum - they are very different models! It's not a question of "chiding" but of helping a member to get the best advice they can, and that is surely in the XK forum, otherwise what is the XK forum for?

The XK forum is about the XK model.  Occasionally a new member, unused to the Club and the varied forums , may post a question or comment on what could be the incorrect forum.  Rather than make an issue of something very minor in what after all is a friendly club, I prefer to let things lie.

Being a retired horny handed son of toil - former steelworker and farm labourer - I am not too bothered about where people write or say things, but rather on what they say.

I thought that they may get more help in the XK forum, that is all. Some XK owners may miss it in here.

The issues mentioned were not specific to the XK and could apply to any of the Jaguar models and indeed, to many other cars. Paintwork, & laying up for the winter are not peculiar issues with just the Jaguar XK.  I had both issues with my XR3i convertible.
