2001 Sovereign V8 Coolant warning frequently displays and level needs topping. Main Jaguar dealer had it in twice - no leaks and returned as ok. I run the aircon on cold most of the time in summer (!) could this affect the coolant level/use. An ongoing mystery. Any ideas? Thank you.

raymond if you have checked the coolant level and its ok then it must be a faulty sensor. i would take it to a diaognostic checkist the would be at lest be able to remove it. charlie :)

Welcome to the Club, Raymond.

I think Charlie is quite correct.

Jaguar tell you that it is better for the car to keep the Climate control on all the time.

I get a "Service Required" message coming up, but I know the car has just had one.  What it means is that Jaguar service the car just over a year ago.

I will  plug in the diagnostic reader to abolish it when the reader decides to recognise the car again.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks Charlie & Peter

The problem is that the level DID need topping up, but twice and unofficially several other times Jaguar Main Dealer said no leaks and no problem! This time they seem to have screwed the filler cap so tightly that I can't undo it - I tried because having just got the car back on Friday, when I first used it Saturday the coolant warning came up again so I can't manually check the level! I used it this evening and the warning hasn't come up, but I cant' unscrew the filler cap to check the level.

So because it needed topping up so quickly in succession,  the coolant must have been going somewhere, and still maybe it is! I think the car will have to go back to Harwoods for them to check it again.

I love my XJ Sovereign 308 but I also have a 4 year old XF - different animal but I'm afraid I still prefer the XJ.

Anyway, thanks so much for your thoughts.

Regards

Mystery hopefully solved. Personally drove XJ 308 Sovereign back to Main Dealer and top mechanic said two pipes wrongly connected (I have no idea whatsoever when that could have happened) causing header tank to vent into atmosphere. They reconnected pipes, topped up the header and now virtually guarantee problem fixed. We shall see, but I believe them! The technicalities are beyond me.

In the meantime, thanks for your comments which were helpful and in the right direction!

I am glad it is sorted out, Ray.

Sometimes dealer/mechanics make mistakes.

I had a brand new Ford Escort that was losing Oil, and I found the day after I got it that the Rocker Box gasket was missing.

Hope it is now solved Raymond.

Peter is right, we all make mistakes, that's why they put rubbers on the end of pencils !

Personally I cannot stand incompetence at any level.
