Hi I new to the forum. I hope someone can give me some advice. I have a 2.5 awd auto and when I coast or lift off the throttle say on a slight downhill I get a shhhsh noise. It does not make the noise in neutral so sort have eliminated everything but gearbox. The gearbox works without fault and changes impeccably. It has had the Oil changed at jaguar 1000 miles ago. Has anybody had the same problem. It certainly is not that loud but I have had many autos and never heard this before.

Many thanks for your help

Welcome to the Club, James.

I had a 2.5 AWD x type [manual], & although I have had years of automatic gearbox experience [currently with a 2.7 litre auto] I have never heard that noise before. I will listen for that noise when I next go near a hill - a bit flat round here - a try to think what it is.

Regards,

Peter.

Thank you I would appreciate any help. I have been told that it could be just gearbox rattle which they advised to slightly overfill the gearbox to make it a bit quieter. You can't even hear it from the passenger seat it that slight of a noise. Plenty of hills hear I am in the middle of the north york shire moors. I am thinking of an xj 350 v6 have sort of got hooked on the jag thing

Hi James,

I was out yesterday and tried coasting down a gentle gradient but no untoward noise.  The highest point round here is only about 250 feet above sea level.

The North Yorkshire moors has some real hills which I know quite well. My sister lives in Glaisdale, and when I was working in Teesside I always used to go over there.

The Jaguar experience is rather good!

Regards,

Peter.
