I think you will find 1 of the sensors as gone. Have someone sit in the car and place in reverse with their foot on the brake whilst you kneel down and listen to the sensors 1 at a time. If you hear it clicking its fine if not then its likely that its gone. If 1 sensor is gone then the parking sensors will not work, they work / wired through a daisy chain style system. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I had a similar problem when someone scraped one of the sensors in a car park. My local friendly garage used the diagnostics to confirm which one had failed (my cheapo ODBII scanner wouldn't do it) Apparently it's a Jaguar only spare and it cost me a shade under £60 plus fitting.

One tip is that if you've got to replace one on a 10 year + car then get the garage to check the exhaust mounting on the bumper "iron". Mine had corroded and needed attention. The bumper "iron" or beam is aluminium and the exhaust bracket is steel - not a good mix. If they've got the rear bumper off then get both jobs done.

Good idea about the exhaust mounting however, why are they taking the bumper off to change a simple parking sensor which is removed by reaching behind, squeezing the two clips and pushing it outwards.

I've read on other sites about taking off the bumpers/light clusters etc,  but, if you use a stanley blade or fine screwdriver, you can tease out the offending sensor without doing anything else and it simply unplugs.

Plug a new one in and push it all back into the hole. Simples.

I have a problem with ,my sensors.I get the very loud high pitch noise but only sometimes.

So far have I have ignition on and put in to reverse - no high pitch noise - all sensors clicking.

Cleaned sensors with tooth brush just in case of dirt

Tried again - all sensors working - no high pitched noise.

Turned ignition off, put car in to park. Turned ignition on put in to reverse gear - high pitch noise. Checked all sensors and all still clicking.

What is wrong in my case please?
