Hi all,

Signed on the dotted line today for a 2010 Jag XJ 5.0 V8 Portfolio from HA Fox in Leeds.  Really pleased - only downside was that the guy who was test driving it this morning (as I was driving to buy) lost it on a dead straight road and wrote off the front left alloy and bumper!  Only cosmetic and Jag dealer is putting everything right (as you would expect!) but this will delay when I can pick it up.

Would appreciate any views from members who have owned one of these?

Not owned an XJ so cannot comment on the model and sorry to hear of your misfortune obviously being disappointed hearing the news on arrival to sign the dotted line.

Personally I would not now want the car, yes the bumper is cosmetic however, hitting the front near side alloy would leave me with suspicions to suspension / allignment damage therefore having very little trust in the car.

Have you negotiated a discount because of such damage? Remember you have a 14 day period for which to change your mind, there must be an XJ out there with your name on it having not gone through remedial work.

Good luck and welcome to the owners forum

Thanks Kenny.  Its a main dealer (increasing my confidence) and they have said they wont release the car if they have a sniff of anything long term.  And yes I got a better discount!!!!!  Find out tomorrow as to whether its still a goer.

So long as you are happy Scott then thats all that matters albeit I would still be suspicious main dealer or not especially to a car dealer stating "If we have a sniff of anything wrong then they won't release it". The first thing I would do for peace of mind is take it somewhere reputable that does 4 wheel alignment and get it checked out. If its out then take it back and demand your money back under The Sale of Goods Act [1979]

Make sure you inform them of the act before taking the car and that you intend to have the vehicle independently looked at.

Clean bill of health from dealers (new wheel and replaced scraped bumper) - collect week today.  First trip will be to a wheel alignment emporium as per Kenny's post :)

Good for you Scott, I genuinely would to give you piece of mind that no suspension, tracking or other damage was caused in the bump. If it was hit hard enough to kill a wheel I would expect further damage. I hit a roundabout once slowly not being able to stop on ice on a downward hill and it knocked the wishbone back.

Latest is I wont get the car next week as dealer is struggling sourcing an ABS sensor.  As a thank you for my patience the dealer is popping me temp in an XF from Thursday - I will report back on my thoughts on that model.  Wonder if it is a diesel or something a bit more spicy!  I think I probably know the answer to that

All sounds a bit iffy there Scott, sound to me as if he is desperate to get rid of the car although I looked online and its quite easy to get hold of a ABS sensor

Welcome Scott,

Don't trust the guff the stealerships spin you.

Got an email yesterday from Jag offering me a £100 back if I got the car serviced at a dealership, reading the small print I had to meet one of these secret shopper type people after the service, report my findings, then get my hundred quid .

Got the car in May (XKR),  and was told it had just been fully serviced . It might just be coincidence, but when I got in the car this morning it said " Service required"

You will enjoy the XJ a great deal, it is a fab car. Until recently I had a XJ Supersport (main pic on the gallery page) , it was brilliant in every way, the only reason I got rid of it was because "she who must be obeyed" said it didn't look like a proper Jag (like Peter's S type) , and the lanes around here are too small for the car .

But saying that, I cannot fault it in any way, and you would have to go a long way to find a better large car .

Scott, I think the XF you will be loaned is a diesel, and could be the same engine as mine - or the 3 litre.  Still pretty quick, though.

Trevor, I have the service required notice coming up on my car, too. It is to do with the mileage or date last scheduled service.

Regards,

Peter.

Peter,

This is true, but just go to show that the stealership lied when they told me the car had been serviced when I bought it last May, have been delving, and the car was actually last serviced October last year. So I will book it in to be serviced by my local trustworthy independent garage .

I was loaned an XF 3 litre portfolio  devils fuel car , when the Aston was in for it's usual monthly holiday.  I was so impressed with it, that I said at the time, "The Next car I have will be a Jaaag" , didn't realise it would be as quick materialising, but i have now had two, and don't regret it .

Best cars I have ever owned  , the XJ Supersport, and the XKR. When I get the snide comments such as " Oh, a poor man's Aston Martin " , I just smile and say "Really? just shows how little you know!"

Picked up the interim Jag today - an XF.  Really impressed, nice and pokey (its a diesel) and returning 49mpg.  Wonderfully quiet - makes my two last cars Clio 200RS and Subaru Impreza RB320 sound like tractors inside and a lovely ride.

XJ 5.0 V8 Portfolio ready next Wed - I will be expecting the same fuel economy ;)

Charlie,

Get the shopping delivered,

HM's car might get 40MPG but it's still a Vauxhall !

You should get more MPG from you XK than that surely? I even get 31 MPG on a run, how come you get so little ?
