Scott,

Just makes the exhaust noisier , which some peeps seem to like . In the XKR there is a button that puts the exhaust into "anti social mode" . Removing the fuse on a non active exhaust evidently does the same thing.

Scott,

The XK has computer controlled valves in the exhaust. These Valves open above a certain RPM to allow a deeper exhaust note. Jaguar did this because the XK is essentually a Grand Tourer and having the maximum noise all the time would be unacceptable on a long journey to most drivers and passengers .

Where is this button Trevor? I think I would prefer to be in a position whereupon I can choose the louder anti social mode rather than having to put up with it on a long cruise journey

Ken,

Your model won't have the button on, that's why you have to take the fuse out .On mine it is a button that puts the car into dynamic mode, it tightens up everything and opens the baffles in the exhaust .

The reason you have stated is why there is a fuse, Dynamic mode is good fun just to annoy the neighbours, but you wouldn't want it on a long journey .

I can never understand why peeps want loud cars anyhow . My XJ Superpsort had double glazing and that was sheer bliss.

I like a quiet car, Trevor, you can hear music better without turning the volume up very high.

My S type is very quiet, but earlier diesels I have had sounded like Massey Fergusons in low gears.

Peter,

I agree, I don't think any diesels sound good, they all sound like London routmasters. But as I said, I cannot understand the fascination for the sound of a car . McLaren even employ an "Audiologist" .

Like you. I prefer to be able to listen to the music.

The XJ is excellent, and as the boy Charlie say, it is a fab colour .

XKR goes like a rocket now it's been serviced by a proper garage.

Hi, I am also  a new owner (3 weeks), my cat is the first one I have bought and so far am loving it even though it's 9yrs old but in good condition and only 70,000 miles on the clock which isn't much for a 2.2 diesel lump. I was interested in your experience with the dealer (they never cease to amaze me) hope everything works out ok for you.

The 2nd week I had my car I had an interim service at my local jag dealer mainly because the previous owner used jag exclusively for everything (he was a doctor) wished I hadn't because surprise surprise a load of faults (brake discs/suspension/oil leaks) were found. Needless to say I can't afford their prices and had a 2nd opinion from an indy garage in my village who has treated me well before.

The upshot is that no work needs doing at the present time but I'm keeping an eye out.

The moral of the story was summed up by my local mechanic "all jag want from you is the contents of your wallet!"

Regards.

Hi Stuart,

Welcome to the Club.

Main dealers do charge a lot for labour, and most members have found that independent garages - in my case a main dealer trained mechanic - do a very good job and charge half as much.

If you have a good garage who you trust, stick with them.

Meanwhile enjoy you Jaguar.

Regards,

Peter.
