Charles, the first year rate is £1,095 however it falls into category M in the CO/2 calculator which means itt will be £500 per year thereafter.

Taken from the Parkers guide Charles and what gives a clearer explanation;

The first-year ‘showroom tax’ is a way of attempting to deter people from buying the most polluting cars.

For instance, if you were looking to buy a new car and the emissions were more than 255g/km then you would have to pay £1,030 for the first year. This then drops to the standard cost of £475 per year.

The cars most affected by the first year tax are those in tax band H and above. If you buy a car in any of these bands you will have to pay more than the standard yearly rate of tax.

My brother recently (git) bought the F-Type - S and the dealer gave him the first years road tax free. I also purchased a Citroen DS3 at the beginning of the year for my wife and again the dealer threw in the first years road tax free of charge in the deal. Again my Mother has bought a Voltswagon new last week with free tax. It appears that there is a trend by manufacturers to sell cars they are giving the first years road tax free.

Totally agree with you on that point Trevor, I've been saying that for years that way all the scumbags currently driving around with no tax would not be able to, and we would not have had to install cameras at an expensive cost to us all over the UK to catch them.

agree with you ther trevor, but the buggers would only put the price up. charlie

Charlie,

I agree , but don't see why I should have to over three times the price that my next door neighbour does . I already pay council tax and he doesn't, and he drives a Volvo !

Charlie,

Move down here, the next door neighbour ( or Mr Subtitle as I call him), might be a scrounging Manc , but at least he doesn't resort to buying French stuff .
