I have been told that my discs are a little rusty and will have to be changed at the next servicing, I have been looking around at prices and for Discs and Pads I have been quoted £650, does anyone know a less expensive way around this problem. Thank you !

That's way too expensive Colin.  I bought an S Type last month and found the front Discs were needing replacing and the rear ones not far off so had full discs and pads replaced.  In the end I used my local Independent Garage and they charged me £320 but I could have got the parts for £130 off eBay and done it myself or paid the garage £90 to fit them.  If you go to Euro car parts www.eurocarparts.com they have front discs for 2004 S Type at £49.14 each and rear for £28.20, pads are £34.20 and £16.20 respectively so all told you can get the parts for £205 from them.

Hi Colin,

Chris is quite right.

There is a topic on the Jaguar Owners Lounge which lists independent garages that are recommended.

Euro Car Parts is a good source as is The David Manners Group

Peter.

Thank you both, I have just checked Eurocarparts.com and you are absolutely right. You have just saved me a lot of money, can you confirm that Pagid is a recommended Brake part.

Regards to you both,

Colin

Hi Colin,

It's only a personal recommendation but I fitted Pagid discs and pads to the front of my V8 this summer and they're excellent.

Considering the skinned knuckles and attendant swearing I would pay someone else to do it next time!

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thank you, without any delay I will order the Pagid Brakes, if they are good enough for the 4.2 they will be good enough for my 3.0, our cars look like twins, I have posted a photo in the Site Photo album.

I have a nice Number plate to:- ST04 JAG

Gosh it looks Blue from the Photo, still they are great cars and so comfortable, I am really pleased with mine, hence the extra expense of the Number Plate.

All the best ,

Colin

Colin,

I think your Jag is excellent , and blue, what the wife would call  "a proper Jag" . Also like your house, you're well posh down there in Cornwall compared to us Devonites .

Hi Colin,

Nice colour --  just as nice as mine  --- identical.  Don't they look great in the sun?  You get more of it in Cornwall.

Peter.

For Trevor, the House is a National Trust Property I was visiting, I had delussions of Gandour, so took the photo with the House in the background, I'm afraid my Home is quite ordinary. Thanks for the nice words about my Jag! Yours probably cost 20 times more, so sell the car and buy your Mansion.

For Peter, yes it is a great colour and we just may get a little more Sun down here,

Regards to you both,

Colin

I fitted brembo rear discs and pads a few weeks ago £120 fitted myself about half hour a side. Painted the edges of the disc with a zinc primer to help stop them rusting. Honestly cant believe the price they gave you. There no different to any other car brakes to do except having to reset the epb

Hi Martin, yES, I realise that I can get the job done a great deal cheaper now, I'm a bit disabled though, Flying Accident RAF, so, cannot do the work myself. Once again Thank You,

Regards

Colin

Peter I wonder what the good people of Somerset would think that all their troubles started in Manchester !!!

Cheers mate,

Colin

No relation Trevor, nand I bet you don't find your predicament at all amusing, hope these builders get their fingers out and you are once again back in 'Home Sweet Home'

peter,

It hardly rains in the West Country ? ! have you been on the drink young man? it does nothing else, I have never seen rain like we get down here, and i've lived in Wales. It's more like the tide coming down, than ebbing and flowing .

My house is only just drying out from last December, and I have to get the back done again, the people in Somerset think'we've had a drought in comparison to them .

But at least it's clean warm rain, unlike Manchester !

The house is nearly finished Colin, but it has cost me an absolute fortune, but not to worry

Trevor
