Hi All,

Has anyone had their rear windows tinted and if so can you post some pictures to show us all. I am thinking about having it done, but not sure how the finish around the high level brake light looks.

Cheers Shep.

My XJ Supersport had it (privacy glass), and I didn't like it at all. I found it very restrictive when filtering into traffic coming from the right .

Here is a pic

Had it done on a Merc once and would highly recommend not having it done. Night time vision is soooooo restricted its just to dangerous

Kenny,

I must agree, thought it would be cool, but it is what you say, I would go further and say it shouldn't be allowed . It cuts down the vision dramatically, even in the daytime .

Im sure its restrictive, but not by much. I think subtle black tints look great especially with black alloys

I had an Audi A4 estate before i bought the Jaaaag and it was fine so if you like the look go ahead, enjoy yourself. My only doubt is the quality of aftermarket compared to factory fit. My son had it done and eventually the film got torn which is the only reason i haven't had it done

I had it done in the rear window of y 911 many years ago and believe you me night time driving is sooooooooo restrictive. Just not worth it, like Trevor have stated "Don't Know how its allowed". I wouldd never have it done again.

I have never thought of doing it.  Anything that is visibility restrictive could cause an accident.

When I first started driving wing mirrors were a novelty,  but they made a world of difference on my motorbikes, and they always were an optional extra on cars till a few years ago. I have always had them!

Good visibility is a must.

Hi Shep,

I had the same dilemma when I picked up my new car last week, I have a XF in a colour called Caviar and it looks superb with the rear windows done, I have only had them done extremely light as I didn't want to go for the over modified look, it looks very discreet and just gives it a slightly more aggressive appeal.

I will post a picture when I get back as I am currently Offshore

Look forward to seeing the pictures Eddie. I'm seriously thinking of getting my XF done. How tough is it? is it easily torn? Who did you use for the work?

For what its worth i disagree with most of the posts. I honestly don't know what most are on about, sure its a bit darker but even at night its really no problem, could even be better as it defuses any glare from headlights. My experience has been that as long as you don't go for a very dark tint there is no problem at all. Car manufacturers tend to offer a less dense tint and would be what I would go for.

I have had factory fitted tints on all of my previous cars including my Mercedes ML, Range Rover and M3 and I have to say not once has it hindered my view (I only get a light tint tho) the XF is the only car I have owned that hasn't had them from factory.

All the tints have been very durable, and as they are relatively cheap they are easy to replace if damaged, I have them done from a company near me and it costs around £180 taking approximately 1/2 a day.

I am inclined to go along with Trevor and Kenny  ---  police drivers [and I was taught by one a long time ago] are of the same opinion, too.

my new fiesta has very dark tints and I don't find they are  in anyway a problem I think they set the car off black car black tints and chrome looks cool

Dear Members

I must apologise to anyone who finds my disagreement with the majority view arrogant. No offence was intended, just enjoying the debate.

Not a bad debate, either, Phil, but us oldies are a bit traditonal and remember when you had a man waving a red  flag in front of cars.

my XF has tints and I like em

but I know mine is in the illegal spectrum as the 2 rear doors and back window are as dark as you can get and the 2 front door windows are a little lighter than the back but I know that if/when i get pulled I will have to remove the tint from the front 2

Thanks for all your comments whether pro or con. I've had them done and I think they look great. Visibility isn't hindered at all.

Back doors windows I had fitted the darkest film fitted and the rear window one shade lighter as I was worried about the high level brrake light - but to be honest makes little difference to brightness.

Pickys below, let me know what you think. :)

Hi,

my XF 2012 has all windows tinted, except the windscreen.

According to the certificate of conformity, Front doors are tinted at 75%, and rear doors and back window are 85%.

The car is a MY2012, the window tinting was done in november 2014.

As I have my XF only since 10 days  , and have not yet experienced night driving, I can't say if it is good or not, in terms of visibility.

But the car looks really amazing in Stratus Grey and dark windows.

Hope it helps in your decision to tint or not.

Frankie,

It was a fab car, but the wife didn't like it, and it was too big for the Devon cart tracks, so I got shot of it (at great expense) , and bought a 2012 XKR which I have since sold after falling out with the Jaguar dealership and Jaguar customer relations department .

Hi your car looks great with tints, can I ask, do the tints effect the way the auto dimming mirrors function? Want to get mine tinted but only if the mirrors still dim fully.

thanks

Hi

Your car looks superb, love the colour and think the tints are a perfect compliment. What's the name of the company you used and what did it cost?

Hi, My XF Premium Luxury had Privacy Glass as an option when new - I really love it, it offers great privacy in the back and keeps it cooler in the summer, in my opinion it's well worth having it done!

Kevan
