Hello all, hope you and your cars are running well. I am having trouble with locking and arming the alarm with the remote on the key, it will lock physically with the key, I have changed the battery and tried the spare key but no change, when I unlock the door with the key its sets off the alarm and I have to put the key in the ignition to silence it ( its amazing how many people in a busy shopping arcade did not bat an eye lid as I nervously tried to silence my alarm). my car is a 2004 s-type V6 SE , thank you Danny.

Daniel,

Have you checked the main car battery ?, these weird idiosyncrasies (what a good word, i've impressed myself!) can quite often mean that the battery is on it's way out.

Hi Trevor, thank you for your reply, the main car battery is only 2 months old, I can see what your thinking a poor battery could cause problems, Danny

Danny,

Found this, don't know if it will be of any use, but you never know:

" try spraying some WD40 down the key hole of the ignition barrel. there is a little flap that closes when the key is removed,

if this does not close properly the fob will not work ."

Danny,

I think you might have to reprogramme the key to the car, there are some strange ways of doing it and bypassing the stealerships.

Really busy tonight and tomorrow with a blues festival i've organised and photographing .

If you haven't got it sorted I will investigate further on Monday.

But you could try this which I came across after a quick look:

"Turn ignitiion on/off 8 times (allow all functions to stabilise) afterthe 9th on - press a button on both remote fobs. then turn ignition off. Use good remote to lock and then try new remote to unlock/lock.sometimes it works first time - sometimes you have to repeat actions"

Hi Trevor, tried the on off etc but no luck. I am away for a few days now I'm a long distance driver so if I don't answer that's why. I will try and get some ideas from my local garage too, thanks again for your help, Danny

Hi Danny and Trevor,

I have been away for a couple of day and have just read this interesting exchange  ---  I fully concur with what Trevor has said and I do believe that there are several good garages recommended in the list on the Jaguar Owners Lounge in Derbyshire. which could be useful.

I belong to the era that if WD40 doesn't work you just hit it with a lump hammer   ----   sadly that era has now passed.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Peter.

Charlie,

I haven't had a problem with the car, just the stealership, and Jaguar themselves , which I won't be dealing with anymore .

P.S. The blues and rock festival went really well, we have had really good feedback, you should come down next year and let your hair down !

trevor  we are coming to cornwall next year . its a bit of a drive down but were up for it. charlie

Posted

Charlie,

I will make sure Cornwall is open for you .

The drive isn't too bad unless you do it on a Saturday morning during the season, then the M5 is full of caravans !

Peter,

Well just come down without hair, and without caravan.

Charlie,

In all fairness I had a Vauxhall Astra SRI, and it never let me down .

The worst car i've had in 48 years of driving have been the Aston Martins .

The worst dealerships have been Jaguar, followed by BMW.

The worst company i've dealt with and with the most arrogant useless customer relations have been Jaguar .

Curiously, I have never had a problem with the main dealer I have been using [when necessary] for 30 years.  It could have been something to do with the fact that I was somewhat involved with the purchasing and servicing of our car fleet for the last 5 years of my employment.

Peter,

If they are so good why don't you get your car serviced by them ?

I have found them to be very over priced, and very uneconomical with the truth .

They could take a lesson in customer relations and civility .

If main dealers were any good, independent garages would not exist .

I have bought my last six cars through main dealers, each time I have paid over the odds .

I am very disappointed with the attitude of Jaguar , I would like to have thought I was a valued customer, but apparently not .

For less than 0.5% of the total price I paid for the car they would have still had a happy customer, or even an apology would have helped.

Much as I like the car, I will be looking elsewhere next time .

Hi Trevor,

For over 17 years i was responsible for the maintenance of company  cars with the area I was the Regional Director of my Organisation.  I had problems with one main dealer and sacked them and went to another.  I was obliged by the rules to use a main dealers, and often challenged their bills.

When I retired I knew that there was better to be had elsewhere and that is why I had my car serviced and maintained with someone trusted and cheaper.

The real answer to a bad dealer is to sack them, tell them why, and then go elsewhere.  I have dealt with Taunton Jaguar online and they seem efficient.  My very local Jaguar Dealer is a franchised dealer and is very good, and I know they come from a long distance away to buy cars from them.

I do know that most manufacturers will support their main dealers publicly but will give them a good telling off privately.  It is sad though, that for the cost of a few shillings, a dealer is prepared to lose a customer.

Regards,

Peter.
