Recently filled up (57ltrs) then drove to Liverpool and back (300 miles) 22mpg motorway.

Filled up fortnight ago drove round town 214 miles 16mpg !

Hi Keith

I average 28 and on a long run I've had as high as 34 and that's from a V8!

Ever considered keeping it under 120!!!

3.0 ltr v6 petrol Pete.

No visible signs or smells of a leak:-(

Hi Keith,

I think the car needs retuning.  To me, it is either that or new plugs, which used to be an easy job.

Nothing wrong with the tank   ---   the steel is re-rolled and coated in Brierley Hill in a works  I

used to visit regularly and well quality tested.  A bad product got a poor score from me!

just had a thought Pete I do always have the A/C on ?

Hi Keith,

The manual for the S Type and probably other Jaguar Models does say that you should always keep the A/C on in the Auto mode.

Some Aircon systems [my Rover Sterling did] give you a better mpg when they are switched on, biu not Jaguar. Page 156 of the owners manual [if you have one].

The manual can be downloaded if you haven't got a copy.

Regards,

Peter.

Could be a crank sensor as they can give you bad mpg way before they throw a code out. Tanks are plastic on s-type well is on mine anyway. May benefit on a plug change and general service. Check your airfilter yourself as main dealers wont even look at them anymore unless its due on milage.

my ac is always on and I get 23mpg round town 3.0
