hi dean , dont panic. yes for the sake of £250 get the other one done as well (peace of mind) aye and new water pump&thermostatt maybe another £2-300 hundred quid track rod end another hundred so your talking a grand now. so you have to ask your self this.if i get rid off the jag .Q. what will i get for it. A. not a lot. Q. if i sold it what would i get to replace it.A. prob another jag. yes your car is 15 years old and cars are mechanical they need fixing ect. basicly you have 2 options keep it ,get it fixed up and hope you dont have more probs. or sell and buy another car and hope its not got any probs. believe me they all get probs. our other car daily runner 10mnth old insignia was in getting the steering pump and pipes replace the other week all under warranty . my point is this if i was you i would keep the jag  as you love it. and to be honest theirs not much out their to beat the looks of an stype. but any more needing done after that i would cut my loses and buy another s type. charlie

Colin,

Your s type is one of the early models and indeed, at that time the fastest production car ever made by Jaguar. There will come a time when your car starts appreciating in price as they stopped building them at the very end of 2007.  There were not very many 4.0 litre s types manufactured and a lot of those went to the USA.

I would be inclined to keep it, keep the paintwork nice and shiny and the bodywork straight and you will have a head turner in a few years.

It is a pity that your garage didn't replace both tensioners while they had the chance.  Track rod ends are not that expensive, and what you spend of keeping your tracking correct you will save on tyres.

Regards,

Peter.
