Hi Trevor

I have a 2006 X Type 2.0L diesel with 60K miles on the clock. About 2 years ago the glowplug warning light came on then reset after stopping the engine and starting it again but it kept coming back and when it was on the engine performance was restricted. no fault codes showed up. I removed the EGR valve and found it about 50% blocked with carbon/soot, I replaced the valve and blanked it off with the plate without the hole ( about £6 on Ebay) So far so good, 2 years later it hasn't come back and fuel consumption has improved by about 4MPG.

Hope this helps.

Hi Trevor

You don't say what engine you have (2.0 or 2.2 ) with the 2.0 litre you can fit a Full Blank and has a Vacuum EGR, Where as the 2.2 litre has an Electric EGR and needs a Blanking Plate with a 8 or 10 mm Hole.I haven't fitted a Blank to my x type yet as it has only done 22.750 miles.

Hi Trevor,

I am thinking of doing that on my s type 2.7D when it goes in for service in May.  I will need the ones with the small hole in.

I have had several EGR warnings  --  probably a sticky valve -- and I have usually cured by a blast on the A38.  There is a spray at Halfords which apparently can clean the valves. I bought one but the blast cured it so it is still in the boot.

Apparently all you do is get the engine up to operating temperature, remove the air filter and spray down the air intake.

Regards,

Peter.
