My first car was a Triumph Herald in 1965 which died in 1968 of terminal rust plus electrical failures. I serviced it every 25k miles and it had 99k on the clock when I took all the good bits out and took the rest to the tip.

I had been a biker before that and had one of the first 6 Honda Dreams in the UK, and also a Triumph T100 which blew up on what was then known as the Preston by-pass on the 12th June 1964.

My first car was a Datsun Cherry 100A 1976 not that brilliant but can't complain as my grandparents gave to me, since then 3 Fords, 2 Vauxhalls, 2 Austin's, Toyota , Volvo and now the XType the best of all.

The first car I ever sat in was a Rolls Royce, and it came to our terraced house to pick me and my grandfather up to take us to the local Rugby League match in September 1945.  A beautiful black car with plenty of room in the back, as it was a hearse, and the owner was the local undertaker who was a friend of my grandfather.

The first car I owned was a Triumph Herald, which died of terminal rust when it was a mere 6 years old with 99600 on the clock, with a top speed of 86 mph from a 1200cc engine.

I then bought an Austin A40 Farina, with a 998cc engine and a top speed of 65 mph!

Funny enough Peter a mate of mine bought a white Rolls Royce, his wife had a wedding shop and business and they rented the car out for weddings. One weekend living in Merthyr Tydfil we decided to take the Roller up to Twickers to watch England v Wales.

We had some funny looks in Twickenham car park when we climbed out in our scruffy Levi's and T'shirts pulled a picnic basket out of the boot which included a bottle of champers
