Charlie,

cannot understand the stick Mondeos get.

I had an old one over 1000K on the clock, travelled everywhere in it for work , it cost me £950.

It is far better than my last six cars put together for reliability (can't count the one i have now as i've only had it two minutes ), which have been two Jags (might change my name to Prestcott) , both less than two years old, two Aston Martins (each four years old ) , and two BMW's (both ex Dem ).

peter, i never meant to offend the guy. was just stating in my opinion that it was & is a banger. to me that is the truth. he would be throwing his money away, after all its not a classic is it. to much plastic in it for that. regarding the SHOVEL it seems as if i am constantly digging out old bangers. have done my best to get you your christmas wish of the 4ft of snow for the birmingham area. (said a wee prayer to the big guy) oh sorry dont think im offending any one & hope not but last time i looked this was still a christian country.  charlie

Hi Charlie,

Sam loves his S type - and why not.? While it may be getting old the mechanics seem sound and the S type is a future classic, with Sam's car being one of the very early ones.

There are many members with cars older than the early s types and they are not bangers --  they are well looked after, and age means nothing when it comes to a well maintained vehicle. There are not than many old s types around and Sam was keen to keep his going, and scrapping it was not really a helpful answer.

Regards,

Peter.

peter, this is my last reply on this club, i feel i have nothing more to offer on here, i joined to take part in days out & rallies and the like. thats not happening on here. as ive said today all we do is in my mind is rattle on about banggers, sorry but thats what they are to me (had a few myself the bmw x5 was the worst and that was an 08plate) im no stuck up toff . never have never will. dont get me wrong i love my jag but not as much as you, to me it seems if we had two biscuit tins yours would always be the better. ive been to 2days out since i joined THESE FORUMS and both days out were organized by other members and it was a mixture of other clubs that turned up. its wasting my time. as ive said this is my last reply or post and will be editing the settings so as i wont get emails to any more off them, so you all can feel free to comment as i wont, goodbye charlie

My daughter also a Doctor drove down from Kent for the weekend in her Audi TT and unfortunately drove over some debris on the M4 enroute. It resulted on sticking it up on the ramps Saturday morning where we found the wishbone buckled leaving the car unfit to drive so it was the train home.

Someone as been lumbered with getting it repaired

Seems to me Sam's query was answered in the first half dozen replies. So what was all the rest of it about? Basically silly arguments over nothing at all to do with Jaguars, playground stuff. As far as I am concerned I joined the JOC to get and give advice on Jags not engage in bickering or discussions about the climate. So come on lads lets get back to the basics of what this club is about, giving helpful advice to fellow members. Best wishes and a Happy Christmas and a peaceful and healthy New Year to all JOC members. Geoff

Well said Geoff, its gone all out of proportion by one and all. And from Wales which would be exactly the same in Cornwall if you speak the language;

I think that was what they call a storm in a tea cup!

I'm not offended about the "scrap it" or "banger" comment and my Jag cant read so it's all fine.

Thanks to all for your comments, the solution was charge the battery. !Removed! obvious really but it often helps to get a different perspective. Unfortunately though the initial problem was not solved by changing the throttle body. The problem is it does not tick over well. It starts fine then settles down to about 700 rpm then ticks over erratically, sometimes even stalls. When driving it purrs along what ever speed or rpm I want until I go slowly down hill, being an automatic, when I put my foot on the brake it sometimes wants to stall again. Any suggestions ???

Happy that its all worked out for you. Just goes to show it is sometimes the simplest of things that you can loose sleep over. That is of course different with Trevor having spent a fortune of two 4 year old Aston Martins that were not fit for purpose.

Posted

Kenny,

Never lose sleep over anything, as I don't sleep much, and yes, the Aston's are junk, and I did lose a lot of money over them.

But at least it's one thing I can tick off, if I'd never owned one I would still want one .

It's all part of life.

At least you can say you had one or two of them and never again Trevor. I'm still in the I want one mode but there again I also want a SLR or SLS

I don't mind the doors Trevor, like yourself I thought exactly the same until I was in Mercedes Swansea where there was a SLR in the showroom and the salesman asked me if I wanted to sit in. It was not restrictive like I thought it would be.

Posted

Kenny,

Don't get me wrong I really like the doors, but I would think they would be tremendously restrictive, even more so on the ones in the Lambo and Mclaren , especially trying to park in a car park.

They are so different to those of the Lambo and I would agree with you 100% there however these were nothing like it

Hi guys would say possible needs new battery but would take battery to any Halford or mot station to check if it is behond charging won't cost u anything

Posted

Thanks Bigman,

Yeh battery is on the dicky side, it appears to hold power for about 5 days but I don't want to buy a new battery until I get the tickover problem sorted.

     Any ideas?

I think we would all be clutching at straws to give you an educated, qualified answer on that one Sam. I personally believe its a stealership or Independent good garage with trained technicians who regularly see this type of idle that will resolve your issue. Lets not forget a decent independent does not necessary have to be Jaguar trained.

Thanks Kenny, you're right I think. I will just have to open my wallet for a change! I usually do all my own work so it will be nice to hand it over to someone else.

Merry Christmas

2007 s type. I lock the door with the key or by remote and it unlocks in a couple seconds. also, my battery drains overnight. Just got this car and want to be able to use it.

Welcome to the club, Rob.

The first question is what model is your S Type?   The next question is How old is the battery?

There could be  many reasons why you car is not working properly, but basic facts are important.

If the electric function is inoperative, use the key. See if water is collected under the spare tire. If so, this will affect the electronics back there, which controls the fuel pump, IIRC.

The next thing is to connect a battery charger for a few hours, preferably overnight. Not sure a low battery is the root cause, but these cars are very finicky about low voltage. Make sure the battery is topped off before starting any troubleshooting. click here
