Hi. Impulse buy on Friday of a 03 x-type 3.0 sport. Simply couldn't resist 4wd power at such a bargain. Now I'll have to get rid of the x3. Car is so much fun and comfort it's brill. Never had a jag before but now I see why it's so much more than a Mondeo. Looking forward to driving to work now.

Got lots of questions, but I'll chevk out the forum for answers first.

Rob,

Welcome,

There is nothing wrong with impulse buys , it makes life interesting.

They are a friendly bunch on here , and you can usually get answers to any problems .

Don't be put off by any Mondeo taunts from people either .

Welcome to the club, Rob.

The first x type was a rebadged Mondeo.  It didn't sell as it was a Mondeo Ghia, and was discontinued in week and Halewood were given a proper Jaguar to build.

The platform was a Mondeo as was the gearbox but that is not unusual in motor manufacturing.

The x type is a great car, and car you have was very popular is the USA and in Canada.  I had a 2.5 litre AWD, which was tremendous, but someone else liked it too and I was car jacked. [The three thieves  got 8 years apiece last week].

Enjoy both your car and the club.

Peter.

Impulse? I actually bought my XKR taking hell of a risk unlike me when on holiday in Portugal making sneaky telephone calls and emails behind Lyn's back. If she had known there would not have ben an holiday so to speak.

I believe I was lucky though everything when fine when I collected the car and drove it the 160 miles home from High Wycombe to Wales.

Unfortunately, it was purchased at the latter end of September therefore, I have yet to see the summer fun from it. It will come took it out on a nice Sunny day Saturday but it was still a little icy and the rear end was not an happy chappy on slippery roads

Hi Trevor,

They caught them bang to rights.  There have been a spate of similar carjacks in the area and "from information received" the police followed them for weeks and eventually bought them with a stolen car which them followed and it led the to a lock up in Erdington when they had two stolen Audi TTs. They charged them with the theft of those two cars plus the one they had followed and took about 10 other cases which they had admitted to.  The pictures in the paper of the scroats were the two who stole my car.

I would like to know when they get out as I know several big lads who might want to give them a good talking to.

Regards,

Peter

"Talking to" Maybe we do things a little differently in Wales Peter

Posted

Peter,

The "talking to" sounds like a good idea to me, although if I had my way (as Frank Sinatra would say) they wouldn't be coming out.

Kenny,

Love doing things on impulse (the wife being manic depressive is ten times worse ) although I wish I hadn't bought the Astons on impulse, not a wise move !

We all learn from experience Trevor or that is what they say. I have been very fortunate over the years buying on impulse especially with the AMG's

Posted

Kenny, The last person I knew of who got a good talking to was found the next morning tied to a tree on Tettenhall golf course with a few bruised ribs and a black eye.

Kenny,

The Aston was meant to be my "Dream Car", but what a let down, the second biggest disappointment in my life, next to seeing the Beatles live .

And the tree Peter is talking about was a Bonsai , they don't mess about up North !

What model did you have Trevor and what was  the let down? I love the roar on the DB9

Kenny,

Had a four year old DB9 Volante , the roof went wrong twice in the first month, exchanged it for a DB9 Le Mans ,also four years old. The climate control went wrong twice, the alarm system went wrong. the leather lifted on the dashboard, the passenger door handle fell off , then the transmission failed .

Whilst in the stealership a woman ran into it , and did me a favour, I think they are overated, overpiced, and slow, not a patch on the XKR, or even the XJ Supersport I had . It looked good, and sounded good, and that was it.

The worst car (s) I have ever owned.

They should improve in 2016 when they use the AMG engine and Mercedes electrics

And to think before purchasing the XKR I was really looking for a second and DB7 like you I wanted my dream car. I did not realise AMG/Merc were to supply them with engines/electrics

Posted

Kenny,

Also, the DB7's have to be serviced twice a year .

But this will still tonk it :

At present Aston have just made a loss of £25m, due to people hanging on for the updated engine and electrics, and also the F Type Jag, being a lot cheaper and faster .

My brother recently purchased a brand new F type Trevor, he opted for the 3ltr sport version with twin superchargers, he did not see any reasoning behind stepping up for the 5ltr when the performance on this is well capable of losing him his licence.

He's chuffed to bits with it and I'm envious

Posted

Kenny,

Nearly bought the three litre version F type , but got the 5 litre XKR instead as it was faster.

I was going to wait for the 5 litre F Type, but things move on, and I'll have a look at the AMG GT next year when it's out, or might just get a newer AMG saloon, but I shall see .

Browd got the 3ltr F type sport which is a lot quicker tan the standard 3ltr. That new AMG, GT really does look the business though I will be well jealous of you buddy and you may get a visitor at Ilfracombe  :D
