We have a absolutely mint 2007 S type with only 2500 miles on the clock

Has recently sustained fire damage from behind the dash board due to an electric malfunction,

Before i bought it, it was repaired due to flood damage, it was obviously repaired 100% as i never knew this.

The insurance company have since written the car off and offered £6990.

I don't think this is very fair baring in mind the mileage and general condition of the car, it was only used to back up my Ferrari on weddings etc.

Please let me know your thoughts on what to reply to the insurance company. Any thoughts will be appreciated

Welcome to the Club, Clive.

I think the insurance people look at the average prices of similar cars on the open market.  They appear to take no notice of things like the condition of the car, the fact that it might have new tyres on it, and other opinions on the value.

I think you must write a letter to the company, but before you do look up the list of directors and address the letter to the Managing Director.

When my x type was stolen, LV refused to pay as they felt that I was 100% at fault as I got out of the car to ask someone to move his car from across my driveway. His accomplice jumped into the car and drove it away.

I told LV that I would have a quiet chat with their MD, and I got a 'phone call a couple of hours later to say that they were going to pay up.  Not enough money, really, though.

Good luck

Peter.

Market Value as your Policy Schedule will read unfortunately. I'm not saying this is right but this is how the law would look at it

Thanks for you reply Kenny,

I have insured it for £20'000 as this is a very well looked after vehicle and with only 2500 miles on the clock id struggle to find a replacement for the measley £7000 they've offered me.

Thanks again,

I appreciate your frustration Clive however, they will look at the book price no matter what you have insured the sum at. I would suggest you take a look at the Parkers or similar guide for your vehicle and see what prices are floating the market. Another method without meaning to be disrespectful to you is take a look on the we buy any car website and see the pittance they will offer.

Good luck Clive
