Hi,

I find myself in the Jaguar owners world and so far so very good. I bought a 2002 2.5 V6 Auto for £600. I was sceptical at first but thought it was worth a gamble. I have only had it a week and it has covered 1000 miles on top of it's high 207,000 miles. Everything looks well cared for but I'd like to check it over and would welcome any areas to start looking. The service history is shall we say 'non-existant' so I'm in the dark, so far it's paying for itself in smiles and distance covered but I'm starting to like it so wouldn't mind preserving our relationship a while longer.

Hi Trevor,

Thanks

You have highlighted the majority of my problem, no servicing book, very limited servicing paperwork. It was a PX to clear. I know that it had new window wipers :/ I will check the Oil filler cap in the morning. I am flying blind so to speak.

Hi TJK,

She drives a treat. Starts first time and settles down quickly. Pulls well and will happily explore the rev range in sport mode. Handles really well, feels planted. Engine bay is immaculate. It doesn't look like it should have done 200,000+ miles. Bodywork is very tidy for it's age.

Practically it feels fantastic, it's only the shadowy servicing history that makes me have any doubts. I kinda feel i'll just keep it as long as it runs well. Ignorance is bliss?

I should be able to get it done through the mechanics at work. I will try and avoid the expensive dealer costs. It's not worth it on a car of this value.

Welcome to the Club, John.

The X type 2.5 V6 AWD is a very good car, and if the engine runs well it must have been serviced well, and probably not be a dealer but by someone who knew what they were doing.

I used to have an x type with a similar engine, but with an manual gearbox in absolute pristine condition, but it was borrowed on non returnable unauthorised loan by two scroats for whose current accommodation for the next 8 years is being paid for by the honest people of England.

Just check the air filter, se how new the Oil filter looks, -- Trevor has mentioned the cam belts, and getting them done at work is always a good idea. When I worked in a big factory I used to do the same and a regular service used to cost 17/9 stopped out of my salary  --  quite a while ago,

Enjoy your Jaguar and enjoy the club.

Regards,

Peter.
