Good evening,

I know this topic has been discussed before but if somebody could explain to me in simple terms it would be appreciated.

I filled my Jag up with supermarket diesel before I found out the car would run better on named brand fuel.

Now I am due to fill up again and would like to know what the difference is and how the named brand is better.

I got 32mpg on this tank of fuel which is more than I expected to get with the big cat. I travel 50 miles a day consisting of 36 miles motorway and 14 miles a roads/town centre traffic.

Thanks for listening ,

Gary.

Hi Gary,

I am advised that the branded fuel, Shell, Esso, BP etc has various additives that suit performance engines whereas supermarket fuel has not.  Some drivers put various additives in the fuel themselves.

I am assuming at your car is powered by the 2.7 diesel as is mine in which I got 53 mpg on a mixed roads drive of almost 100 miles in which the motorway was speed limited to 50 mph.  The return journey showed 49 mph when I was able to give the car a bit more speed.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter ,

Thanks for explaining that for me. I will fill up tonight at my local shell station and let you know if my mpg improves.

Good morning Peter,

I've got question if you don't mind. My 2.7 diesel temp sits between 1/4 and 1/2 but I've read on the forum it should be on 1/2. Is this something that needs looking at ?

The cars runs fine and the heater is getting hot enough it seems.

Thanks for your time ,

Gary.

Hi Gary,

My temperature gauge sits on exactly half way, but I have had cars where the gauge sits about a third up.  I have had cars of the same make [11 Ford Escorts when I had company cars] and each one had a slight difference.

If the car is running well, and the climate control is working I would not worry too much about it.

Regards,

Peter.

I have a 3 ltr S Type and if I put normal unleaded fuel in it , the engine management light comes on, I forget the code but its something to do with emissions, clear the fault and put the good stuff in it and its ok.
