Having bought a 2008 X-Type 2.2 Diesel that I thought was a Sovereign spec, I have learned today that it might in fact be a SE spec wrongly identified as a Sovereign (even the V5 states Sovereign but it doesn't have the wooden insert steering wheel, piped seats, multi-CD player and a few other Sovereign toys not immediately apparent during a test drive unless you REALLY know the spec trim levels!).

Can anybody shed any further light on the saga of Jaguar wrongly identifying model specs in the mid 00's, and would I have any redress against the trader (as a trader, should he have known or is it a case of buyer beware)?  Thanks for any advice, as despite the fact that the car is still superb, it takes the edge off purchasing what is, for me, a dream car!

Cheers in advance,

Hi Mac,

Sorry to hear the shine has been taken off the experience, but completely understand why. Given the time lapsed since registration, it's less likely that Jaguar would do much about it. But, their UK customer service team is pretty good in my experience (dealer won't want to know). It's worth giving them a call, they may well have the details on file to check through with you. As for recompense, they might give a complimentary something...cufflinks?! The trader won't have done anything wrong as they saw from the log book it was a Sovereign too.

Good luck, it's worth a chat. Nothing to lose.

Hi Mac,

Try googling ---   VinDecoderZ ----  and you will find the exact specification of you car when it left Halewood.

It will surprise you to see how many optional extras there are in Jaguar Cars.

But, as Trevor says, You have the real thing and enjoy the Jaguar experience.

Regards,

Peter.

I Had an SE first and was slightly disappointed with the spec. It did however have the electronic aircon unit, multi disc boot changer etc. For some reason you get Sport models with no sat nav or the manual knobs for aircon, bought new with bog standard kit. Some SE models ordered and bought with extras. I trawled for sale ads for a couple of months looking for a higher spec car, eventually finding my current Sport 3.0 with sat nav, heated seats, all the extras.. I was still disappointed when I realised it did not have front parking sensors only rear! If you are not happy with the spec I would sell your car on and look more carefully for one with more extras. I doubt much can be done trying to recoup from the seller especially if you test drove it and you were happy at the time to part with your money.
