I have an S Type with 18" 25 Spoke Alloy Rims with 245 40 18 PZeros fitted. I tow a caravan and as many will know you cannot tow with a space saver spare. I need to buy another standard rim but have been unable to source one so far has anyone any idea who made the 25spoke and or where I might get another.

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks Tel

Hi Tel and welcome to the Club.

i used to tow a caravan, and had a proper spare wheel, but it wasn't a matching one, just a plain steel wheel.  That might be the route you will have to go.

On the plus side, in over 20 years I never had a puncture.

With my S type, I do have a factory supplied matching alloy spare wheel.

Good luck and if I find anything I will get back to you.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Peter

thanks for your response. As the space saver is steel presumably the same bolts used on the alloys can be used on steel rims. As you say it might be easier just to get a steel wheel as it will only be used as a spare although it would be nice to have a matching alloy. I can't seem to find a 25 spoke wheel anywhere very strange.

Hi thanks for the information, the link you gave was extremely helpful, hopefully I can now source a rim from a scrappers with all the different cars that use the same rim

Yeah I found it a few years ago and have used it loads of times for searching for a spare or if you buy alloys etc

This is another good one if you cannot get 18" but you can adjust the tyre size to bring it up to the correct/safe rolling diameter as it is only a spare, say like a 17"  X type wheel but with the correct profile tyre or even a 16" Ford wheel again with a higher profile tyre but check the smaller wheel clears calipers etc, they usually do.

Hi Ron,

i used to have a Rover Sterling 1999 model which was fitted with the standard alloys - top spec - that were on that model.  The spare wheel was a steel one, which was only used once for several hours. But it was 15 years ago.

Hi Ron,

thanks for the advice, I think you will find that the nuts can be used with a steel wheel as the space saver spare is steel as V8Rumble has suggested. The handbook certainly says you can use the nuts used for the alloys with the steel space saver.

Anyway thanks to all contributors, just for the record I have managed to source a spare alloy rim today, not the same 25 spoke pattern but it will do as a spare and it is in reasonable shape as well

I think we can now close this topic
