I have a 2009 XKR that has done nearly 24,000 miles and looks the business, but unfortunately has died. I have been told by my local Jaguar dealership that the engine is seized and that the only answer is to have a new engine. Though they haven't officially quoted me, they said that the cost will be nearer to £15k than £10k.

I am in shock, and disbelief. Jaguar UK do not seem particularly interested.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Can anyone suggest an independent specialist who might be able to help? Anyone any other suggestions?

Hi John, and welcome to the Club.

Do you know why the engine seized?

There is a jaguar specialist in Armthorpe , Doncaster, recommended  in the list of indies in the Jaguar Owners Lounge.

They have a website   www.the jagspecialist.com

Let us know how you get on.

Peter.

Thankfully no John, I have not had the displeasure of looking at a dead/seized engine in my XKR albeit I have had such problems in the past with a different manufacturer. I would have thought the XKR engine is not specific to the model therefore, can be found amongst other models. Years ago there used to be a company named Heathrow Engines, I don't know if they are still around but they had a wide variety of reconditioned engines.

Just done a very quick search on google; I found something on Heathrow Engines but that was a rogue traders report nevertheless, I did find the following links;

hi john welcome to the club I am quite new here myself. I like my jaguar 13 xj portfo im only in my 40s but I do a check on fluids ect every weeks or so. but very sorry to hear of your problem. looking at the past topics on hear and other websites it seems to be the : norm; for jaguar to distance its self from customers who are having problems. they tend to leave it to dealers to deal with. I recently posted a new topic on Friday about jaguar /landrover in china. quite a lot off customers ie 36,000 of them had complained to them regarding gearbox problems. jaguar did nothing so the customers got state tv involved. result jaguar land/rover are recalling them. if you go on to jaguarforum.com   (much bigger site) and ask for ryan @jaguar or scroll throu the pages to find and you could contact him see if he can help. joe

Thanks for your help and advise everyone.

The fault was that the con-rod on cylinder 8 is sticking out into the engine casing. One really dead engine. The car is now in Doncaster with Chris Isle who seems a really knowledgable and nice guy. Beyond resuscitation, we are looking at a transplant.

Jaguar simply don't want to know.

hi john. again very sorry to hear about your motor. did you try to contact ryan hes on the jaguarforums.com site . but prob wont do anything maybe worth a try thou.  it seems to be that jaguar have a lot to learn about customer service. its alright churning out new cars every ten mins. but not listing  to your customers is very stupid. and as a business owner I know that. old saying comes to mind

Hi John,

I am glad the problem has been located.  Chris Isle and he team are well respected by quite a few members.

I had the same problem as you with a Triumph T100 on what is now the M6 on June 12 1964, near Preston.  I remember the date well because that was the day I first took my future wife out!

I hope the transplant works.

Regards,

Peter.

I dread to think of the final cost to this transplant John, I just hope it doesn't happen to me. Have anyone else experienced this problem on the V8
