mpg?

hi lads & lasses, im a taxi driver & would love to know what mpg you lt get "around the doors " in your xtypes, i have been warned off due to poor fule consumption , all the cars i look at the specs say are around the 45-50 mpg have a vectra atm & getting 41 mpg by the onboard computer, also been warned off because of electrical probs & a small boot ?? would love one tbh , any advice really appriciated, going to change my car at the end of the month

Well there's a lot of x type's to choose from 2-5/3-0 litre petrol all wheel drive ,2-0 2-2 litre diesel (saloon/estate) models (s )basic (se) (sport) (sport premium) (Top of the range Sovereign). I'm on my third x type (2005 2-0 litre diesel se only problem was a split turbo hose, )( 2008 basic model S 2-2 litre diesel 6 Speed Auto no problem' s, sold it as was hoping to purchase an XE Demo Car and they would be Rear Wheel Drive and being without a car for 6 weeks went and bought a x type 2-2 diesel Auto (Sovereign ) after driving ( Mondeo, Focus, BMW 118 ,A4 )decided on another x type 2009 Model. The only thing to look out for is some Models are not properly

Advertised saying it's a (Sovereign model which has coloured piping on the Seats when it is actually an SE Model ) .

Early models had problems with sills rusting which can easily be welded , Transfer box on all wheel drive models is a weak point I'm led

to believe.I prefer the 2-2litre with the Auto Gearbox with Touring Suspension the only thing with this is it has a Diesel Particulate filter which doesn't like a lot of short journeys, but all new Diesels have them now.

If I was you I would test drive a few and check out what service has been done , I'm very satisfied with mine.

Meant to say about MPG I get 37/39 local for an Auto and manuals get about 6/8 miles more per gallon.

I drive a 2.5 awd as my daily driver (mostly short trips around town etc). I'm getting 27mpg. Haven't done a motorway trip yet. But I've been monitoring my driving distance and fuel gauge for the last few weeks and I'm doing roughly 20 miles a day 5 days a week and that's costing me £20 a week on fuel. Compared to my diesel peugeot 407 the jag has proven more fuel efficient and cheaper to insure for myself. My typical driving style is chauffeur style with the occasional hard acceleration.

Hi Michael,

I usd to get between 32 and 35 mpg on the 100 miles between Birmingham and Leeds in my 2.5AWD on the M42 and M1.

Cruise control on when the road was quiet, but mostly using the manual gearbox carefully, but still not hanging around.

I thought so too, but it doesn't compare with the 45 - 50 that the 2.7 diesel gives me!

I have driven my car a bit hard today. Getting up to speed quickly etc. Enough to here the twin pipes thunder and I've still managed 27mpg. Just shows that these big engined cars can return good mpg if you know how to drive them.

Did I trip to the ace cafe and back. 76.8 miles there and back which used up 9 litres of petrol. If my maths is right that works out just over 42 mpg. This based on me driving mainly at 60mph and occasionally hitting 70mph.

I'm I right? I've worked out that the distance between each white notch on the fuel gauge is 7.6 liters. I'm fascinated with the mpg at the moment. Every time the needle has moved I end up working out the fuel consumption. So far a mates 1.4 vauxhal tigra petrol is consuming more even after a heavy servicing

Hi Joe,

In the USA many major cities have very high - Los Angeles, in particular, have very high pollution levels, higher in fact than London.

They have very few diesel cars in the USA.

In London, the major cause of pollution is static traffic. Vehicles stopping and the engines ticking over -- buses, taxies etc are the biggest causes of pollution.

A well serviced diesel engine causes for less pollution than many petrol engines, and with the regulations from Europe most engines are getting better in the respect.

The Engine manufacturers [TATA, Ford, Mercedes, BMW, VW and Peugeot] have all invested huge amounts of money on the new generation of diesel engines, which they would not have done if they thought that diesel engines had no future.

just to add my two pence worth

i go from reading to oxford every day then return in rush hour traffic a round trip of 70 + miles each trip from a cold engine, and the 2.0 diesel in doing about 44- 50 mpg daily so cant gru

grumble at that at all tbh

Sorry I'm a little late in replying to you but I have driven 22036miles since Dec13 and used 496.83 gallons of diesel so returning a average 44.35mpg.

Xtype 2.0 diesel.

Hi Gary,

You must be doing all short runs.

I filled up a couple of weeks ago and did a round trip of about 90 miles with some dual carriageway and some country roads. I got 43 mpg. Since then I have only done short runs which has reduced the average to 30.9 mpg.

Had I only done short runs I probably would have got about 27 mpg,
