Hello fellow Jaguar lovers, I've just put a deposit down on my first ever Jaguar. Thought I'd come and say hi. I'm hoping to get it on Saturday, I'm properly excited. I've always wanted one and I hope I've picked a nice one. I needed an estate for my two dogs, but unfortunately I didn't have a very big budget, so I settled on a low mileage x type 2.2d sport estate. I've never seen so many extras. Can't wait for Saturday.

Welcome to the club, Gerard.

The x type is a very nice car and Estate owners love the space in the back.

I hope you enjoy the club as well as the car.

Regards,

Peter.

Thank you for the welcome Peter, it's much appreciated. I'll pop up some pictures of the car as soon as I can.

Hi Gerrard and welcome to The Jaguar Owners Club. The members here are ever so helpful and friendly and will be only to pleased to answer any questions that may arise along the course of your ownership/membership.

Thank you Ken33, I'm amazed at how friendly this club is. I have a Nissan Pathfinder at the moment and getting any info for it is a nightmare and the club is a complete non starter. I'm hoping that my, new to me, purchase lives up to my expectations. I'm told that the x type is mostly very reliable. The one I'm waiting for has only done 63000 mls, with full Jaguar service history, so fingers crossed.

By the way, it has a full leather interior and unfortunately the previous owner was a smoker. This is the only thing that lets the car down. Anyone got any idea's as how best to deal with the stale smoke smell

Hi Gerard,

The first s type we looked at was owned by a smoker ----  the smell was so bad we walked away.

Get several air fresheners, and if the car is in a garage leave the windows open overnight.  Give the carpets a good spray with the sort of freshener spray you can find in the bathroom.

Persist daily and the smell will give up and go away.

Regards,

Peter.

Can I suggest firstly a Valet Gerard requesting the leather gets treated at the same time. Obviously mention to the valeted before employing him/her that the main reason for wanting the task undertaken is to rid the vehicle of the odours left behind by the previous owner smoking. Good luck

Thank you Ken33y,

I might think about a valet if I can't sort it myself. I really enjoy the process of cleaning a car, I find it quite therapeutic. I was just fishing for ideas on good methods or products to help rid the interior of that stale smoke smell. I guess it could be worse, I once had to get a valet following a full two litres of milk spilling in a rear footwell of a car. The guy had to remove the entire carpet from the car! The offending milk had crept under the seat and into the sound deadening. Smelt like vomit.....

Same happened to me many years ago Gerrard in my then Mini Cooper "S" (a proper one) when the milk was bought in glass bottles. Like an idiot following the purchase I placed it on the passenger seat until yes you have guessed I had to brake hard, spilt milk everywhere in the front passengers footwell. For all those who know the early Cooper S (mine was 1969) there were no electric windows so I drove around with the windows open for what seemed like ages and it was winter. Never forget that smell and would never transport milk like that again.

Oh yes,

I'm loving the fact that the major supermarkets now deliver your purchases to your door, no more carrying dairy products for me.
