What is it? (Diesel engine)

On the top of the diesel engine, right back as far as you can see with the main engine cover off, there is a sort of plastic conduit running across the top of the engine and underneath it has some foam type material, presumably to stop vibration.

 

Well, my foam stuff is falling to bits and I'd like to replace it but I can't find reference to it in JEPC.

 

Please can anybody assist?

Hi Paul,

 

I will have a look at my car and see if I can find where I can get a substitute.  I did have some foam start to fail on my  X type and I managed to find some similar foam and cut it to size.

Hi Paul,

 

I have had a look and I guess it is a separate  part of the foam soundproofing attacked to the engine cover.  I have had a look around and not found anything.  

 

While the foam strip on my car is in good condition, the larger piece of soundproofing  is getting a bit worse for wear, and I would replace it if I could find one.

 

I will have a talk with Bob at my local car accessory shop, and will see if he can find one.

Hi paul,

 

I have found several  of the foam sound proofers on eBay, but they were all in appalling condition.  I have also talked with Bob in the Auto accessory shop and his parts catalogue don't have any of any make.  He guesses that the main dealer will be the only place to get them, and they probably won't have any for cars no longer in production.

 

There is some soundproofing sheeting available ,but i don't think it would suitable.

 

I am going to look at the XF  design, as the 3.0 litre Diesel is the same as the 2.7 but a little larger.

 

I will let you know the result.

Hi Paul,

 

I have had a look at the XF 3.0 litre diagrams and it appears that the engine covers are the same as the covers on the S type.

 

That was the easy bit.

 

The hard bit was finding a part number - which I couldn't - and then finding any for sale.

 

I will keep looking.
