Apart from the spare wheel [i have a proper one], jack etc, I have found a car booster seat for my grandson, shopping bag, first aid kit, warning triangle, fire extinguisher, high viz jacket, blanket, bungee clips, window cleaner, leather cleaner, bird dropping remover, sponce for removing dead flies, a bottle fill with screen wash water, OBD2 code reader, spare spectacles, one pair of binoculars, ice scraper, various microfibre cloths, tyre pressure gauge, tyre tread gauge, two spanners for disconnecting the battery, a roll of duct tape, tyre inflator, a large roll of kitchen towels, handbooks for English Heritage and the National Trust, several pens, 'phone charger, a bottle of water, and the papers for GEM breakdown service.

 

What have I forgotten?

Football boots yes I'm 59 years of age but I'm a ex semi-professional and still play for our local veteran side along with the Welsh over 55's veteran side. Had a few games against England and never been on the losing side.

But when you break down, or get a puncture, or if your smell smoke from the engine, a 4 Iron is no substitute for a warning triangle, or a fire extinguisher!

Most European Countries now insist that all motorists carry a fire extinguisher, and a warning triangle.  That is to prevent accidents when a car is stopped.  The AA and RAC take time to get to the scene, during which time fatalities can occur. Some European countries also insist on a first aid kit.

 

I do not use the AA or RAC [too expensive], but I am a member of the Guild of Experienced Motorists [GEM] who have a very good breakdown service and have been voted the best service over the past 7 years.  The full cost  is roughly £75 a year cheaper than both the AA and RAC.

 

There is nothing wrong in being prepared.

Quite right and well said Peter there is most definitely nothing wrong with being prepared. I have my AA membership free with my Bank Account. There is nothing wrong in being prepared.

Hi Kenny,

 

Some 30 years ago I was going from home to Lichfield one Sunday, and saw a lady and a small child in a lay by with the bonnet open.  I stopped and went back to see if I could help.  What had happened was the she had just picked up the car from being serviced and the mechanic had not connected properly the accelerator cable.

 

Carrying a small toolkit I was able to connect it, and they were soon on their way.  No mobile phones in those days!

 

Meanwhile, enjoy your Jaguar today!

Hi Guys

In the boot there's a tired old travel bag in which all the essentials are kept including emergency and foreign travel bit'sn'bobs. Also, there are a few useful things squeezed in around the spare wheel under the boot floor.

But here's one for the AA.

A few years ago our car (not a Jaguar) wouldn't start after we'd been shopping somewhere in south-west France. Phone the AA back in the UK. Instructions were to remain in the car park with the bonnet open. After a very short wait a smart tow truck appeared and then SHE did. Stepping down from the cab, long, long legs in cut-off denim shorts, a bare midriff below a raggedy trimmed tee shirt and smiling face with a trendy, cropped hair-do. No, I'm not making this up as you'll soon realise - I let myself down!

The young damsel in (my) distress connected her electronic gadget to the car, checked a few things before discovering the mobile fridge we were carrying in the boot. I'd left it on while we were shopping and it had drained the battery. The dear girl advised me to buy a new battery, pointing across the road to a car accessories outlet before (and here's where it gets embarrassing lads) taking my wrist and smacking the back of my hand.

My dear wife was giggling uncontrollably, although I was thanking our delightlful rescuer, my wife told me that my voice had shot up a couple of octaves and it was difficult to know whether I was squeaking "merci" or "mercy"!

 

The shame of it, amongst family and friends I've not been able to live that one down!!

I got a boot big enough to fit a Nissan Micra in and all I have in my boot is an umbrella.

In my boot  i have a couple of ex work bosses ( they started to smell quite a while ago), helmets and gloves for work plus a big thick coat ( been playing in the new project 7 for the last few months and with no roof and the chilly weather i needed the good coat) and i also have all my car cleaning gear since British racing green should be kept clean and shiny at all times  :)
