My Jaguar S type 2.7d has been losing a little coolant. I
gave it a thorough inspection today, removing the lower cover, air filter etc.

It seems the coolant is leaking from the passenger side of
the engine and there is some of it leaking down this pipe here

This appears to be a coolant metal pipe which joins to
rubber pipes at the bottom and near the top of the engine. I have looked near
the top join but there doesn’t seem to be any leaking however, there is a metal
thing sticking out from the engine about half way up which has coolant on it
and it almost touches this pipe. I am not sure what it is because I cannot see
it from the top at all and visibility from the bottom is poor, it is on the
passenger side of the engine. I did wonder if it is a thermostat housing or
something? If anyone has any advice it would be gratefully appreciated. Here it
is.

Geoff, can I suggest you take a look in the area when the car iix up to full temperature and the cooling system is fully pressurised. Should there be any leaks in the aforementioned conditions then you should spot them in good light even fine sprays of leakage.

Hi Ken, thanks for getting back. The car was up to temperature and pressurised when lifted and inspected but no obvious sprays could be seen. Even tried with engine running too.

Hi ..... Just doing a little "surfing" and spotted your post - I have a coolant leak similar to the one you describe & wonder if you were able to resolve it.

Hi ..... It seems to be a common thing ? I to am getting a coolant low waning .. 2007 2.7d ....

I got caught in torrential rain a few weeks ago ... And noticed a warning light and mesage sating . along the lines of "reduced power " ... could only just manage 70 mph .. very little power... Got to where I was going .. switched off ....waited ... switched on and message gone and full power back.    About a week later "Engine coolant low" ... Checked and topped up. . Its happened twice since but now im doing 25 miles max before I get the warning.

No visible signs of coolant ....Oil cap clear and oily .... No water marks anywhere .. heating is good tho air con doesn't  go cold (This may just need recharge) ... any ideas would be appreciated

Thanks  Steve

Took my car for a pressure test - yes, agreed coolant leaking from somewhere on the n/s of the engine; however to get to the nitty gritty requires air cleaner & power steering etc removing - my local garage suggested it would be sensible to seek out a jaguar experienced operation - their thinking being the problem could be obvious to such a team thus minimising labour costs - GEOFF4474's earlier post is similar to my problem and therefore makes me think the leak could be another S Type issue (along with battery drain, parking brake, DSC not available) etc etc.

Can anyone comment before I start raiding the bank.

UPDATE .... Having spent the day poking around I initially found nothing ... Until I had it running up to temperature ... left it running, popped off the engine cover and realised the foam sound deadening insert was soaked.  Looked down where the belts are spinning and I can see a small fountain .. Just cant tell exactly where from .but suspect a hose .. the inertia from the belts is flicking the coolant upwards.  Now if anyone knows what is between the fans and belt(s) .. other than hoses id much appreciate knowing .. Thanks again

I one had a water pump front seal fail (bmw) causing water to drip onto the bottom pulley. That sprayed water all over the front of the car and took a while to figure where it was coming from.

So it seem I was wrong .. its not a hose ... As I pulled off the drive yesterday the contents of the coolant system threw itself on to the road .... The nice AA man informed me that the water pump had let go ... Rang local dealer for quote. Seems they can book it in for mid July !!! ..... Local garage doing it week after next ......

The RAC man told me mine was the water pump, but it turned out to be the metal coolant pipe at the bottom of rad. Mine let go like yours, although had no prior leaking.

Took the car to N&S / Wakefield - they established where the leak was coming from - to get there resulted in removing airbox, power steering pump and turbo cooler pipes plus I'm sure a number of grazed knuckles - the faulty item was "inlet pipe, part number C2C 23804" - problem now fixed.

Next on the agenda, my battery drain, currently thought to be due to corroded wiring behind the front bumper.

new water pump now fitted .. but seems the garage cant get any hot air to blow out of the heater.  They have checked for an air lock but all seems ok ... car runs up to temperature . no sign of coolant loss .. just no hot air ..... Anyone else experienced this at all ?
