strange rattle in warm weather

When I accelarate in first gear from standstill my car makes all the right noises. But when I change up a gear the moment I hit the accelerator it makes a faint rattle that last for about 2 seconds. It only does this at around 1500rpm. Strangely it won't make a single noise in the morning when it's not too hot. Any ideas or similar problems. I have no leaks, warning lights, heat shields seem fine and I can't locate anything else. Performance is perfect as well.

Hi Michael--Sounds as though its something to do with the exaust I think you need to get under the car and shake the exaust pipes .??

You didnt say what engine you have and what pipes .????

I had a 2.5 x type SE [manual on an 05 plate] which used to do the same thing when I accelerated in 2nd gear.

 

I thought it was the exhaust, but never got round to getting under the car before some rotten so & sos carjacked me.

 

It is worth having a look underneath. When I accelerated gently it never happened.

Cheers, the center section of exhaust is intact but sounds hollow when I tap it. Hardly made a noise today, but the weather is cooler today.

Could it be "pinking". I'd try I'd try filling up with either Shell or BP's top grade fuel and see if it goes away.

Hi Allen,

 

I was advised always to use Premium fuel as the engine in my diesel gives better performance.

 

It is worth a try.

Hi, definitely not pinking. I've listened and the engine sounds smooth when stationery. If I change gears at low rpm's it makes no noise at all. If I lift the clutch and accelerate with perfect timing that also makes no noise. But when the car is in motion, if I take my foot of the accelarator and then quickly tap it the noise will re appear. Hardly noticeable when it's cold. Sounds a bit like loose change in a bag. But again no noise when the car is stationary.

Hi Michael ---I still think its the exaust system by the way you explain it --Sorry to hear you cant find

where it is because I know from experiance it can be very annoying ----.Keep trying  :wacko:

I really hope it's the exhaust. I think I'll get a garage to get it up on the ramps and check it out. Thanks for the replies. I'll leave a post if I ever find out what's wrong.

I've been listening carefully all day and I think I may of narrowed it down to the flexi pipe and possible the center box.
