Hi I am new to the fourm. I'm Jon. I bought my X type 2.1 FWD manual a while ago 81K on clock underside still gloss black shafts still underseald and no rust what so ever. Now for my question. I'm more than happy with the power but!! My other car whitch is a full blown track car with lights and a number plate. But as have a new born that car dosnt get used apart for hill climbs and I miss the power. What I'm trying to say is is it possible to push the 2.1 to 200hp. I know people will say just sell mine and get the 2.5 or 3.0 but I love my one. And don't have to deal with as much transmission loss of the awd as to fwd. the I want to know are the blocks identical would I get away with dropping a 2.5 or 3.0 into the car. And or tuning the 2.1 I know the 2.1 and the 2.5 have the same bore and the 2.5 and 3.0 have same stroke. Could I over bore to the 3.0 bore and end up with the 2.5 or are the rods same leangh just crank different and would I get away with a 2.5 crank and rods and again end up with a 2.5 or would all things like throttle body's exhaust manifold a 3x3 into 2. I know the cams only have a difference of 0.676 to 0.800 lift the 2.5 and 3.0 are identical just over bore and the 2.1 de-stroked by half a inch if I remember and slightly shorter lift cams and the cranks are made different. So are AJ20 AJ25 and AJ30 duratec 2.5 and 3.0 ford and the Mazda V6 are a lot of the parts generic with one or to things different and won't swap over. And I have a spare greddy E-manage blue piggy back would that be good or stand alone system.

Anything is do-able, Except make a 2.1 into anything bigger, Not for the fact that it can't be done but the cost effectiveness of doing it.... First and foremost 2.5 and 3.0 are AWD,  2.1 isn't, T box, rear diff, propshaft, rear hubs and driveshafts, Cable accelerator on the 2.1, etc etc, the list goes on, All these differences and considerations make it an unrealistic option, Sorry,

I'm not to worried about cost as I knew it would be costly. I am aware of the differences although thank you for just confirmed it all for me. I know the 2.5 and 3.0 are AWD but I should have worded it proper. Would the 2.5 3.0 bolt to my FWD gear box I think the gearbox if a ford unit 5 speed so bolt pattern might be off with AJ engine but the duratec ford might. What about a supercharger from another jaguar. Or at a push if I managed to source the Nobel twin turbo engine it's the same engine. I do know that a lot of people will tell me I'm silly stuped it's not worth it. Don't blame them. But I want something completely different special to me. Engine tuning doesn't scare me. I am more than capable of any type of work so no money on labour. Just imagination and what I could fiscally be done I know anything can be done. Or would I be better to just forged rods forged Pistons custom cams and timing gears full stand alone ecu and I have 1 garret T28 and 2 T25 turbos. And a lot of spare turbo parts from my track car. Would that be a better option. Also short throw shifter and LSD. For help my track car in an 54 N16 Almera 1.5 with a full turbo conversion running 17psi boost with water injection. Running 451HP at flywheel so about 429 at wheels. That's what I managed with that what running the exact same spec of that car on my jag what would I be looking at at around 10PSI boost?

You obviously know your stuff, I can compare engines and gearboxes to see if they will marry up for you if it would help to give you answers, I have a pile of em waiting to be weighed in, A bit like me you have the know how which dramatically cuts costs, I can't give you any definitive yes or no's to your original question as I have not attempted it, I have however been asked if its a possibility by some 2.1 owners, Apart from the obvious issues I would be concerned about ECU conflicts, Having said that I have just dropped a 3.0 engine into a 2.5 car and it started straight away on a 2.5 ecu, It seems to be quite rapid,Only other thing on that one from standard is the trumpet mod.

Ohh yes and it's not nice at times cause all I want to do is improve my cars and bikes. Ohhh that would be handy if you wouldn't mind because if the 2.5 and 3.0 don't bolt to the box I can just concentrate on the 2.1. The thing that bugs me the most is the stroke but it has the highest CR or the petrol range. So is the block shaved or head or is it just as simple as smaller rods. Cause if it is 2.5 or 3.0 rods and cams and effectively it's a 2.5 from the data on the AJ engines I have got that is the only thing different between 2.1 and 2.5. Oh are they I thought they were made different materials the data I have said huh I'll have to watch that one. The manual I have says 2.5 and 3.0 are steel and 2.1 are cast iron. And the only difference in 2.1 and 2.5 are stroke 2.5 lobe lift intake is 9.367 mm and lobe lift exhaust

9.461 mm the 2.1 is intake and exhaust 8.876 mm other than that they are virtually identical and the 3.0 is identical to the 2.5. Just 89 mm bore compared to the 2.5 2.1 81.6 mm
