What retro-fits / modifications have you done.

I know it isn't for everyone but I like retro-fitting / modifying my S Type.

 

Please don't get me wrong, my personal idea of a good modification is something useful rather than boy racerish, although I will allow that my Synergy box might exceed specifications

 

Anyway, is it just me or is there a murky sub-culture here?

 

Perhaps you might like to let everybody know what you've successfully done to your car?

 

Who knows, somebody might be contemplating such a thing and might be grateful for some help. I know I have been on several occasions :)

As a matter of info, my insurers are very forgiving of my tinkering and have only slightly loaded my premium on one occasion. I do, however, let them know what I've done as a matter of course.

On the assumption that I can't be the only club member to be interested in retro-fits, the response to this thread suggests that the subject is something akin to admitting that one has an STD

Hi Paul,

 

I fitted a spot and a matching fog lamp, plus a maroon fairing to one of my motor bikes in the sixties, and every time I got behind a car driver they slowed down, mistaking me for a traffic policeman  ---  In Lancashire the Police drove maroon Triumph Speed Twins!

 

I fitted a heated rear window on to a Triumph Herald, radios on to various cars, plus a full set of instrumentation on to a Ford Escort when various things failed.

 

Company cars for almost 30 years, when I could only use main dealers, got me away from doing anything!

Hi, I've been scouring the Web looking at various forums and came across this. I'm about to embark on a mission to upgrade my Dad's 2006 S Type. It has all the usual toys like leather heated seats and sat nav, however, we bought it over the phone from Fishmotors.Co. UK Bolton, due to the car having such high spec (It listed every toy under the sun) when we took delivery of it, and after we dropped the delivery driver to the train station (yes he drove it from Bolton), the problems started. The car had no voice activation, rain sense wipers, no multi changer , no front park aid and no power fold mirrors. All as per their add. Then we took it to Jaguar to have it checked over and they listed a number of faults (Unsurprising for a car of this age). Fishmotors now want a second opinion that they have arranged locally for us.

As they are refusing to budge on the car we are most likey stuck with it, hence posting here.

I'll be looking to retro fit most of the missing items and want to know if the wiring loom is in place for the power fold mirrors. Does anyone know?

If they have advertised it with all that stuff then it must have it, and it must be in a good working order. Or you have the right to refuse the car. IE get your money back. Regarding those retro' you want to do don't worry Paul will get back to you shortly I'm sure as he knows his stuff on retro fitting and he is very very helpful chap. Good luck phil

It is always bad when something is not advertised honestly.

 

Maybe a local member could have given the car a check over  ---  Lancashire people are very helpful!

 

Paul is an expert on retrofits.  He also has a wiring diagram.

 

Have you got the owners handbook?  It does give some information on the vagaries of the s type.

I'm of the same opinion as Phil. If you have an invoice or some other proof of the specification of the car, you can get them to return your money or a pro rata proportion thereof.

 

Is the car otherwise good enough to keep? The items you mention are relatively simple to retro-fit if you decide the car is a good enough basic vehicle to keep.

 

The one thing I'm not yet sure of is the powerfold loom. It would be nice to find it in situ and to be fair, Jaguar seem to be much more enlightened about cable looms than some other manufacturers, notably, in my experience, MG/R.

 

I'd like to follow developments if you decide t explore the powerfold route. As I understand it, the driver's switchpack is the same regardless, so I'd suspect that some, if not all, of the loom is present.

 

The mirrors can be had from such as fleabay for not a lot so it would make a worthwhile retro-fit :)

Thank you both for your replies. I have already broached the subject of some sort of financial settlement for the false advertising, they tried to tell me that due to the caveat in the ads that it may not be the exact spec as advertised it was down to me. I checked this with Consumer rights who basically told me the same as you both.

Once the second d opinion has been done tmrw I'll be looking to get a cash deal.

Like I said, I didn't know I'd be needing to seek assistance on the matter or I would have. Lesson learned.

My Dad will be over the moon to get the extras on the car, as he loves the car. I've done the same with my Honda Civic and it's great fun and very rewarding. So I'll def keep you posted and any help would be very much appreciated.

Homelink is a simple plug and play task Stan. Finding a Homelink module using the UK frequency is not so easy :)

 

Dipping mirrors on reverse works well enough but I've found that it is a bit of a waste of time and I've had it switched off for quite a while now :(  That's only my view of course.

Hi all. Sorry for the delay on this thread. Regarding the dodgy Fishmotors.Co.UK car ( Avoid the lying toads like the plague ) I threatened them with legal action and they gave a full refund. It also helped that I hired a trailer and dumped the car outside their offices refusing to budge until the refund was in my account in full. We found another awesome car in Torquay from a private seller with 42k and all the toys. One very happy father. One thing we would like to do is fit the reversing camera I've fitted to come up on the centre sat nav display. Is there someone that can help with what I need?

Just joined the club has I'm a newbie on Jag. Just embraced a new project with this car. I will describe the plans and put some pics up of what I'll be doing. It's going to be mainly cosmetic as there's nothing wrong with engine I know some of you won't like but hey it's a free world! :D

Got the car last week 99 Jaguar 3.0 V6 Auto Silver with 101k miles. I'm used to do detailing and stuff but never on a beast like this (mainly boys cars like 306s, clios, golfs...). Just did MOT but had to replace the beloved suspension part that you can only get from Jag (but i got it from a jag breaker with warranty) and besides that the only indication was corroded brake pipes... I'm now on the process of doing the mechanics engine checks and then will go to the cosmetic part. Now then, the plan is to change the wheels from the factory 16'' to the Triton 18'', do some black detailing on the body kit (just small bits to make it diferent) and swap all the interior wood panels with carbon fibre ! It will look bad !Removed!!! Also thinking of moding the exhasts so it sounds a bit better (not bass just more of a "ceramic" noise).

Any sugestions on common faults or unrecommended procedures are welcome.

Welcome to the club, Lui.

 

The S Type 3.0 litre auto is a model beloved by drivers in the USA, and a lot of them went there.  I saw one in Phoenix, Arizona some years ago.  Good solid engine!

 

I hope you put some photos on then the work is done.  16" wheels are a bit small [imo] for the s type.
