Scoured the internet but to no avail on how to take off and fit a new exterior moulding finisher for my drivers door on a 2005 x type, have the part but would greatly appreciate any detailed instructions / manuals / pics etc on how to do this ……. is there any lifesaver out there ?

If there is such a person who can help i can send any pics etc required if they need ...

i assume you mean the trim 3/4 down on the door

take the door card off and with the window up you should see some plastic clips about 3/4 down the door could be white / black , squeeze / pop them out and the whole thing should come away if you cant see clips then its glued in place , now when you put the new one in you may have to buy new clips only a few £ you may also need get some adhesive to keep it in place.

you will find some are just clipped in place  and some are clipped & glued depending how good a fit the moulding is

if this is not the trim then send a photo and i will see if i can send the info you need

hope it helps

hi Jim

forgot too say if its glued in place you may want to leave the car for 24 hrs or so, to let the glue set the trim in place.

the only reason i know this is when a dealer replaced mine on another car

Hi

Not quite sure which trim you mean but if its the waist seals you are referring to (the black strip that sits at the bottom of the window) then they just prise upwards, best done with a flat scraper, If its the bump strips on the door panels about an inch wide then they are only held on with double sided tape, There is one locating pin at one end to aid alignment, You have to be very careful not to scratch the paint on the door skin when removing these, Again a sharp bladed scraper cuts cleanly through the double sided tape but be very careful on the paintwork, If I am wrong on the trim you mean let me know and I will try and give you more answers.
