Replacement Brake Pads

Just had a message appear on the info screen of my 2 year old, 20k miles XF, stating that the "Brake Pads are Worn"

Can anyone please advise, do the pads have to be replaced by a Jaguar Main Dealer, or if I take the car to a cheaper brake replacement outlet to have the job done,  will I invalidate my warranty?

Many thanks in advance.

yes tony you will.  but as long as you use gen jaguar parts from an indie garage you will be ok just mind and state that to the garage you are planning to use or go to a main dealer and buy the pads from them and get the indie garage to fit them. keep the receipt

just adding my two pence worth

and i am not 100% about this, but was told that the indie garage if used  has to be VAT reg as well or this could invalidate your warranty as well, i don't know what it has to do with being VAT reg this is what i was told

Just had the same with my XF. Dropped it into the main dealer here and asked them to contact me with costs prior to doing the work (history of these guys aint great!  ) - anyway, told me I needed brand new front & rear discs and pads at a replacement cost of €1300! Madness when you consider there is a set charge with UK dealers in the UK for this type of work!

Got an indie to check it out instead, and only needed to replace the front discs. Purchased pads and discs from BritishParts.co.uk but within 3 weeks the new discs had warped... I had asked for original OEM discs, but I highly suspect I got a 3rd party set. They wouldn't send out a new replacement set without getting the old ones back, so instead of risking it again with the same discs I purchased a new set of uprated slotted discs from MTEC Brakes (http://www.mtecbrakes.com/)%C2'> hoping to have here this week for fitment. I'll then return the old ones. I have to wait for them to be returned to the manufacturer for validation that they are defective before getting a refund.

I know its cheaper going the indie route, but by god is there a lot of messing around, and sometimes unexpected costs if you get a dodgy part.. Sometimes its just easier to deal with a main dealer if things go wrong...   Lessons learnt, but it wouldn't put me off the indie route....

Hi Rowan,

The David Manners Group is a good source for Jaguar Parts, and  bit cheaper than main dealers.  I collected a part from them and brought it over to Loughrea in June for a member who lives there

It saved  shipping costs!

Peter.

Brake Pads & rotors are classed as consumables and not included in manufacturer warranties so don't be fooled by the service department telling you otherwise? The same goes for tyres, bulbs ect? If supplied and fitted by Jaguar you might? Be lucky to make a claim if they become defective within a few months of fitting. I have just had the wishbones arms replaced under warranty on my 13 reg sportbrake and that is fitted with EBC red pads and rotors on all 4 corners.

Hi Rowan, what brake pads have you been using with your Mtec discs?

I'm having trouble finding anything that's reccommended using together. Jock
