I have a 2005 S-type with a single CD player/radio.  I have contemplated installing a CD changer in the boot (the connections are there), but would prefer a modern radio that will accept USB or SD card.  Any recommendations please - and how easy is it to change the unit?

Welcome to the Club,  Eric.

There are several members who have retro fitted various things to s types including CD changers and who are also quite expert in the Audio area.

I believe changing the unit is not that difficult.

Peter.

There are several instances of fitting an after-market head unit Eric. It isn't a difficult task and modern units will do all you need.

You could, of course, fit an OEM CDC and the Audio Connection Module to integrate iPod, USB ect. into the OEM system but the ACM is so expensive that you'd be able to get a reasonably decent head unit for less.

I'm interested in this too, I'd like iPhone or USB connectivity and I have a tape deck in mine! Although I have the 6 CD boot changer, someone has taken the cassette, but I can hopefully find another somewhere.

A brief Google only showed 2nd hand head units and nothing with modern connectivity, where the Ford Visteon radio is a non DIN size it appears you can buy a blanking plate http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ct24fd02-facia-plate-for-ford-focus-mondeo-fiesta and harness adapter http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ct20jg01-harness-adapter-for-jaguar-x-type so that a standard size head unit can be fitted. Not sure how good this would look though...

I have one or two spare cartridges for the CDC Russ.

If you went for the ACM option you will need a functioning CDC.

You are correct regarding the requirement for a replacement fascia if using a non standard head unit.

Personally, I prefer the OEM stup with ACM if you consider it affordable.

Hey Paul,

It would be fantastic if you could help me with the cartridge, happy to pay so let me know what works for you and what info you need to ensure compatibility.

Agreed that I'd rather not just blank off the original Jag unit, although I fitted a fantastic Phillips DAB unit in my MGF recently for c£120, so if costs got out of hand, I would consider going down this route.

I can't seem to find much sensible info on an S-Type ACM, can you link me to anything that explains what it is, where I can find one and how much it's likely to cost, it would be appreciated.

As a cheap fix I note one can still get the cassettes adapters with a 3.5mm headphone jack, which would preserve originality and only cost £5. But I imagine the sound quality isn't great and it's a bit of a bodge!

Cheers, Russ

As you say, sound isn't great with either those or the RF adaptors, in my view, plus they do not maintain the tight integration with the Jaguar system which is something I really like.

I'm in Court at the moment but will send you full details on the ACM etc. when I get home this evening.

To that end, please send me your e-mail address via PM :) The documents I'm thinking of are a bit more than I can attach herewith.

Paul, if you get a moment I would love this info too, kind regards.

I'll need your e-mail address Dennis (via PM please, not on open forum).

Also, if you let me know what you intend to do I'll know what to send you :)
