It's getting me thinking again, Paul.

Is it a stick on?

Peter.

It does have an adhesive base Peter but the main security is through two holes in the bonnet.

To be frank, given the weight, I'd not trust purely adhesive fixing :)

I'll take a picture when I get a moment :D

Hi just put the stick on one yesterday, must say it is rock solid after 24 hours and easily collapses in the event of anyone silly enough to jump out on me. Will let u know how it goes

Cheers tom

I certainly am Andy. I think it suits the S Type admirably. No drama drilling the bonnet either. Small pilot hole, then a tank cutter - simples.

Well the modern glues seem very good survived a round trip to brighton and still in place, hers hoping it stays that way

That looks pretty smart Paul, and I'm starting to get very tempted! May I ask which one you went for, eBay or elsewhere? I know my father in law thinks we should definitely have one and they look so right on the original MK2's and S-Types ;)

Mine is a bolt on version and cost me £15 from fleabay Russ. Be careful though because the exact same one is on fleabay elsewhere for up to £50

Hey Paul,

You've done better than me as I can't find one at that price, perhaps you could PM a link if you're not comfortable with posting one on the forum. Is yours the sprung loaded type and 5"?

I'm coming around to the idea...

Thanks, Russ

Spring loaded, reversible and 5" Russ.

Not £15.99 but £19.99.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-Badge-Leaping-Cat-Mascot-BOXED-CHROME-5-BRAND-NEW-LARGE-CAT-BADGE-BONNET-/291547210808?

The seller is playing a dodgy game though. They started off at 18.99 and he keeps putting the price up. Top quality chrome-plated brass though.

ALSO, don't assume the drilling template on the inside of the bonnet is accurate. Mine was, but I looked at Peter's yesterday and it was way out.

Thanks Paul, I have the MK1 so think a hole is already there, but I'll still need to do some drilling presumably? And too right Phil, this is why I preferred to trust the advice of a member who has seen one. It's up to £23.99 in the link, so I'll keep an eye on it, but ultimately a few extra £ for something so iconic is neither here nor there, but I don't like being ripped off though so will aim to pay closer to £20 ;)

You're right Russ. Your present bonnet badge is fitted through a hole in the bonnet which is in precisely the right place for the main fixing of the leaper. There is a small spigot further back for which you would have to drill another hole which is designed, I think, to keep the leaper base straight.

That hole would not be essential though as you could saw the spigot off if you wished. The leaper does have an adhesive pad underneath to hold it in place while you tighten the fixing nut.

Personally, I didn't have a problem with drilling the second hole as the spigot is some 5mm in diameter and the base at that point is roughly 12mm so plenty of room for error if necessary :)

Hi Paul,

I once had to drill x 4 32mm holes in the roof of a Discovery to fit roof bars, and not much has phased me since! So if the placement is clear, drilling the extra hole is no problem. Do they come with instructions? Apols if this was covered earlier in the topic.

Thanks :)

After reading al the comments, and additionally seeing both the pictures and Paul's in situ, I am now waiting for the stick on version for £16.99, thanks to Thomas for the link.

Peter.

I'd personally be scared of a stick on, I'd be waiting for it to to come in stuck ang go through windscreen when going down motorway at 140mph
