I have dropped a small chrome leapig cat emblem & it has slid under the single drink cup holder situated behind the gear knob how do I remove this? Is there something like a 'Haynes Manual' I can purchase that will help?

Where can I purchase the instruction manual for my Sat Nav as I can't enter a new destination? It comes up 'Reading CD' will not let me put a new destination in?

Has anyone had a problem with a flat spot/hesitation when first starting up I need to put my foot down to stop this happening. It nearly throws me through the windscreen if I'm not prepared!

My Jaguar is a 4.0 litre V8 S Type X Reg

Hi Antony and welcome to the club :D

The cup holder is held in purely by friction and can be simply levered out. In fact, a lot of S Type drivers leave the cup holder out as the space makes a useful cubby hole.

The workshop manual is readily available. If you PM me your e-mail address I'll send you a copy. It is some 6000 pages so very comprehensive.

There was never a Haynes manual for the S Type.

I can also send you a copy of the driver's sat nav handbook as well, although, from what you describe it sounds like your sat nav disk may well be goosed.

As far as your engine problem, being a diesel driver I cannot comment but I'm sure somebody will in due course..

A 2000 x reg will be a mk1 S type, the cup holder is screwed to the centre consol from underneath.

I found this out when I got a unit out of a scrapper for my '99 it doesn't matter if you break the tabs off as it never bothered mine.

Not had anything to do with the earlier sat nav but it could be the disc ar the player.

Hesitating and flat spot could be a failing coil, needs to be code read to confirm.

Welcome to the Club, Antony.

When I read your post 5 minutes ago I was going to say you would get some help   --  but you already have!

On the Haynes manual front, there is now one for the X Type.  They might even do one for the S Type in the future.

Regards,

Peter.

I have some pdf files of the service manuals, parts list etc which i could email to you. They are for the newer 2002 onwards model but some of the info may well be the same. Let me know if you want them.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply. How do I get to the screw from underneath the centre consol? Where are the tabs Will take my car to my mates workshop when I get a chance to get him to read the codes for hesitating which happens about 30 seconds/minute after I start up! Cheers Tony

I think you have to take out the centre consol between the seats and its screwed to that from underneath.

I didn't know this until I went to a breakers for one as my lid wouldn't close, all I did was put a flat screwdriver under the lip and lever it out, breaking the tabs where the screws go through.

Fitting it into my car was a case of putting it into the hole and letting gravity take its course!!

There will only be codes if the eml has been on or is on.

When was it last serviced??
