I was taking a close look under the bonnet today and I noticed a series of trim retainers around the periphery of the bonnet underside..

They appear to serve no useful purpose on my car and I'm now wondering whether there should perhaps be a heat / sound insulation mat fixed to the underside of the bonnet.

Has anybody actually got one please?

Sorry, re read your post!!

It's something that you'd be better looking for in a breakers yard.

The one on my bonnet is a bit floppy down the sides but strong double sided tape sorted that out.

It'd be interesting to see what a dealer would want for it.

Thank you Andy :)

Am I correct in thinking that those trim clips are to hold it in place?

Does its presence have much of an effect please?

They appear to be available from dealerships... for over £100.

I think a few inquiries at breakers' might be in order.

hi Paul

they are only in place for noise reduction / vibration of the bonnet from the engine  and doesn't effect  any of the cars normal functions the clips you can get anywhere for a few pounds

I think I've located one but the breaker says it actually goes down bwhind the engine as well.

Please can anybody confirm this?

Personally I wouldn't bother, mine got really ratty so I chucked it, in normal driving I can't tell the difference but when I put my foot down you get a bit more lovely V8ness :)

I know Ron,

The guy phoned me and told me he'd misunderstood what I was after.

I was wondering whether the insulation assists the diesel engine in warming up faster?

Posted

I don't think it does assist the warm up, Paul.  I think it must be about noise.

The S Type has an auxiliary heater that assists the warm up in cold weather.

A guy I knew who worked for Peugeot when they were in Coventry told me that muffling the noise of the diesel engine was one of the important factors in design.

Just asked HA Fox in Norwich for a price.

"The part number you have is correct (XR858049)  and the price is £71.87 inc VAT, there is good stock available at Jaguar."
