Hi there,

My S Type been standing outside about 3 weeks while away.

Drove it this morning about 2 miles and noticed a terrible smell when I parked up, did not think it was the Jag.

Parking at home noticed smoke white on rear passenger side as I reversed.

again the same smell.

Is this the brake stuck on due it standing please?

Can I fix it easily?

Cheers,

Julie.

Hi Julie,

I take it that there was no message/warning light.

The handbrake on the 1999 s type is not the electronic one, and if it was released properly it should be OK.

Was the car rolling OK when in neutral?

But, and being absolutely serious, small animals/birds have been know to nest or get into cars when they have been sitting for a week or so, and if the wheel was not hot, you might have been cooking a mouse!!

I will check on the white smoke and get back to you.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Julie,

White smoke from a diesel can sometimes appear on a cold start,  -  not unusual.

It could be coolant leaking and being burnt, which could account for the smell.  Look for leaks and check the level.

Hope this assists,

Peter.

Hi Peter.

No, no warning lights.

The car pulled away/drove OK, have not tried it in neutral yet.

When you say about the mouse, the smell was like something had died to be honest.I better check.

Best Regards,

Julie.

Hi Peter,

Thank you.

Hi Peter,

Levels look OK.

Rolls in neutral, on a slight slope no problem.

Were you serious about the mouse? :)

Yes, Julie.  I was serious about the mouse.

Recently a member had a problem and found that a rodent of some kind had chewed through some electric wires.

If you car has been standing a while it is open house for small animals.

Regards,

Peter.
