Reading a lot of peoples comments both here and elsewhere on the web have noticed a regular problem "REAR SUBFRAME FAILURE/ROT"

I have a 1999 3.0 manual and a 53 2.5 auto and the early one has failed mot due to the above have bought a second hand subframe but it also has a few week spots on close inspection have had these repaired before I fit but was wondering if it is possible to modify the later model subframe to fit as it seems the later models don t suffer quite so much with this problem.

I have removed a subframe previouly when I broke a 3.0se so not a major job but would prefer to fit it just once and not have to replace again in a few years time

or does anyone know a firm or person who refurbishes or re manufactures the subframes

All advise and info gratefully accepted

I don't think there's any difference between mk1 and "facelift" cars sub frames as jaguar carried the same suspension on into the early XF build.

My advice would be to purchase a subframe off a later car as I think it's more an age related fail than better built/designed frames.

If you can find one then I'd suggest getting it powder coated.

hi, I have a 2001 3.0 v6 71000 miles  and noticed a "klunking" from the rear when accelerating and braking, took it too my local garage to take a look and, yes. the rear sub frame was badly corroded, I was given a few options by the garage, who I have used for years, one was to get the sub frame  repaired/refurbed at a cost of around £380 plus vat or a new part at a cost of £585 plus vat or of course get a second hand part from a scrap yard.

As I am intending keeping the car I have opted for the new part and told it will be in the region 0f £1400 with labour maybe a little more as until he strips it down over the next few days he doesn't know if more parts will be required.

I love this car and think it is well worth the expense.  :D
