Shell v power fuel

Hi all

I've got a 2.5 v6 x type and would like to put she'll v power petrol in it, does any one here use it? If so is it worth trying?

I use Shell v power Diesel all the time.  My car runs very well all the time, the engine is very responsive and I get a better performance than when I put in the ordinary standard or supermarket fuel in.  My mpg is better too.

 

A performance engine needs performance fuel.

Andrew a lot of research has went into this topic, even 5th gear took part, and this as well as other forums. results. shell v power came out on top. but not by that much to warrant paying an extra 20p a litre the bottom was asda but it was a close call with bp normal fuel only just beating it. me I don't think that shell v-power justifies the extra dough, I just pull in wer ever I am to fill up and I have a ftype5ltr (the fuel comes out the same refinery and has to meet standards ect) if like on here some "old guys" want to pay extra that's up to them in their small cars

The extra cost for Shell V Power is not 20p a litre, but actually 8p a litre and the extra mpg usually pays for that extra cost, without even considering  the better treatment of the engine.

 

Of course the fuel comes out of the the same refinery, but additives are made by all  of the different companies that use that refinery in every tankerfull of fuel.  I used to have an X Type 2.5AWD [manual] and it was described by one reviewer as "the nippiest car in the Jaguar range" & while I would not describe it as nippy, it certainly holds the road wonderfully and is great on acceleration.

 

Us "old guys" are not gaga, but rather experienced, and I for one will not put recycled chip Oil into my small car.

 

Many members in the club do like to nurture their cars, and like me, cannot just pop round to a main dealer and buy any "big" car that takes their fancy.

 

Try the V Power, Andrew, and see how your small car goes.

No rant at all.

 

When I see a post that I feel is demeaning and also incorrect I answer it.

 

When I see a post with in which a member asks if anyone has used a type of fuel, I answer it if I have used that type of fuel.

 

I would respectfully suggest that you should not have referred to "the old guys" on here and their "Small" cars which in my opinion is offensive.

 

In Baseball there is a rule "Three Strikes and Out".  It might well be useful on this forum.

I've almost exclusively only ever put V-Power into mine in the years I've had it, and I've kept every receipt and mileage details for every time I've put fuel into it. I guess it's probably time to put the details into a spreadsheet and see what it says...

I noticed the difference immediately in both performance and mpg, when I changed from Sainsburys to shell v power, even though Sainsburys are the best of the supermarkets  for fuel.

 

Luckily there is a Shell Station 500 yards away and which is also the cheapest in the area.

 

 It does make a difference, especially with the diesel fuel.

Mine is only the 2.5 S-Type so naturally won't be as thirsty as some of its brethren, but I'm regularly getting an indicated average 32mpg during my daily commute, and the time I drove it to Glasgow (Via the Lake District) to play at the World Pipe Band Championships it got to over 40, which I was quite pleased with :)

The 2.5 litre petrol engine was a  very good one, and was the one used in the X type AWD.  Jaguar made a big mistake when they discontinued it when the 2.7D came in in 2004, as the sales of the 2.5 litre dropped.  It was never exported to the USA and the market here became small.

 

A friend of mine had one from new as his retirement present [i retired in 1999 and had a Rover 825 Sterling as my retirement present] and he never had a problem with it at all.

 

I had an x type 2.5, and managed to get around 38 mph on long runs.

I started a post last May ... "Which diesel fuel?".  Back then I was a fresh but not-so-young Jaguar Owner of 6 months and contributors to my topic, including Old Peter (no offence Peter ... after all, it is your 'handle'!), were very much of the view that Shell V Power could certainly benefit both engine condition and performance.

 

My X-type and I have travelled 17,000 miles since I purchased her in November last year (I may be not-so-young but still have to work!) and since May I've been using said V Power exclusively ... and without regret.  The cost difference is now down to a mere 7 or 8p per litre, added to which if you join the Shell Drivers Club and accumulate 'double points' then you will benefit from a small voucher periodically to help balance the books.

 

It's proven to be worth the extra cost in my view.  That said of course, although fuel type might well seem to enhance the longevity and performance of your treasured mode of transport, nothing beats regular maintenance with particular attention to Oil and filter changes.

When I was a youngster there was a rhyme in my family.  Both my Grandfathers were names Peter, and so was my father.  I have a son named Peter, and two grandsons named Peter.

 

The Rhyme was:-

 

There's Old Peter, Young Peter, and Young Peter's son.

There will always be another Peter when Old Peter's gone.

 

So I am now Old Peter!

 

Back on topic, thought, I am rather glad that you agree with me [and a few others] that V Power suits the Jaguar best   ----   I also get my £ voucher every so often.
