I am seriously considering buying an XK8 (X100) 1996-2000. I would choose a rare ultra low mileage one which I will do very low mileage in and would intend to keep for the rest of my driving days. Should the XK8 become classic territory it would hopefully retain much value and maybe increase in value. I will gamble on this rather than rely on it!

Please can anyone assist with my enquiry? The X100 model was produced from 1996 to 2000. I imagine over these years there were some minor improvements through specification changes. Can anyone provide a list of what these changes were and in which years? In particular were there any major improvements which would mean that, say, a 2003 model is far superior to, say, a 1998 model? I am fairly indifferent about minor changes but I am just trying to detect if there are some years of manufacture which should be avoided. I understand the engine changed from 4.0l to 4.2l but I see it that 4.0l is ample and unless it was a much inferior engine even that is of no concern to me. Simply put, there are very few ultra low mileage cars, and I will hold on for the newer cars if they are considered much improved on the older ones.

Thank you if you provide advice.
