My Front and rear washer pumps have suddenly stopped pumping water. When I press the switch for them I can hear the pump working but no water and also the water level in the reservoir doesn't drop.

Is the access to the pumps (is it one combined pump or two separate?) easy?

Any advice is welcome.

Hi Ken,

I have never had an x type estate, so I am guessing a bit.

If the pump is working and no water is coming through I would think that a tube could be blocked or twisted somewhere along the line.

Peter I bought a Haynes manual today and the pump is combined. It might be clogged up so i will try to access it via the front wheel housing.

Oh the joys :) i thought i had left these jobs behind when i sold my defender :)

I disconnected the pipe at the bonnet hinge and blew air back into the reservoir. It definitely isn't blocked - pump still makes whirring sound when activated but no water coming through. I think the pump might need replaced.

Sorry for the delay. Washer pump fixed - removed the pump and although i could blow air through it the water wasn't being sucked through. Discovered a fine film of gunge lining the output pipes. Removed the gunge and problem sorted.
