Hi

Seeing you have the Auto, i take it you will have a Diesel Particulate filter if you have this filter which is connected to the Exhaust. You will need to use a Low Ash C 1 Oil, I use SHELL HELIX DIESEL ULTRA AFL C1 5/30 which meets specifications Of Ford&Jaguar

WSS-M2C 934-B and use a Genuine Jaguar Oil filter. As for the Auto Gearbox changing the Fluid is not a DIY JOB, i had my Transmission Fluid changed last July at MACKIE'S AUTO TRANSMISSIONS in Glasgow after having a Jaguar meeting there in March last year. My Gearbox is a Aisin Warner make and I think it cost £153 pounds they connect a Hot Flushing Machine to Two Hose Pipes,If you have the DPF try not to do a lot of short journeys if you do they say you should take the x type on a run for 1/2 to 1 hour above 30/40 miles per hour and keep the revs about 2,500/3,000 in 4th on Manuel every 3 to 4 Weeks ,Diesels are ment to be Driven coming out of a Roundabout give it some Wellie don't always keep the REVS below 2,000. I have had my x type for 2years and 8 months and have never had the DPF FULL Warning Light come on, and i always try and Fill

Up with SHELL V POWER DIESEL. And always use a Genuine Jaguar Diesel Fuel Filter.

HI

can anyone help- a mechanic friend has renewed the gearbox sump on a 2006 s-type 2.7d auto and has refilled with correct fluid, but the gearchange from cold seems worse than before. He checked running temperature and cycled through all the gears while while he refilled fluid, but it feels as though the fluid needs topping up still. Gearchange when warm is a lot better by the way.

Hi Julian,

Welcome to the Jaguar Owner's Club.

Was your mechanic aware of the precise transmission temperature range for checking the fluid level?

As far as I'm aware it is of significant importance. I know that when mine was done, the temperature of the fluid was constantly checked to ensure within the parameters.

Also, did he use the ZF lifeguard fluid?

That's great advice. I use Millers C1 Oil direct from Opie Oils.

Just a quick question about gearbox Oil. My 08 auto has done approx 63,000 miles. I've had it about 7 months and (touch wood) haven;t had a DPF message yet although it has regenerated between 500 and 750 miles. Would it be a good idea to try and find an auto gearbox expert in my area to get the fluid changed.

Yes i would change the Gearbox Fluid, when i got mine changed( July 2014 miles 20,291) i was told to change the Fluid every 4 to 5 years regardless of miles done per year. As there are paper discs in the Gearbox and they could be affected by condensation. With the Asin Warner Gearbox only the Fluid can be changed, as the filter is built into the Gearbox and it can only be changed if the Gearbox is stripped down for repair. I think the Fluid as seen on the internet has the number AW 21.

I've just had a gearbox flush and new Oil plus software update at a very reasonable price at S&D Transmissions in Doncaster.

Hi Walt

Good to see you have got the Auto Gearbox Fluid changed and a Software update, did you ask for a Software update and could you enlightening us with what was updated it might be of interest to some Members.

Not sure really, apparently the car is connected to SDD whilst Oil changing and if it requires an update it does it automatically. I haven't noticed much difference in the car yet but apparently the Oil removed was thinner then it should be.

I am more confused than I was :wallbash: (Mind you, that's not difficult)

I have just bought an 06 plate S-Type 2.7D auto SE - I always like to change the Oil in any car I have regularly.  I went on the the Opie Oils site, and searched for the correct Oil for the car.  It came up with this :

Castrol Magnatec Stop-Start 5W-30 A5 Fully Synthetic Car Engine Oil

But as the car has a DPF (at least I think it has, I pick it up next week) then surely the C1 spec oil is a better prospect ?  Please can anyone enlighten this old codger ?

Many thanks

Welcome to the the club, Don.

Your s type has a DPF as does mine.  The Oil recommended has a two year guarantee and is the one also recommended by Jaguar.  I also use it and my car runs beautifully.

Peter.

Hi Don.

Most jag dealers use shell helix ultra C1 WSS-M2C 934-B so i am told , as Castrol used to be the Oil that was used but some use Mobil Oil which is not a C1 Oil. I haven't  any experience with the s type but if it has a DPFilter i would use a C1 oil and always use a Genuine Jaguar oil filter and sometimes drive it as if you had stolen the s type, as with a DPFilter the Engine as with all newish diesels has to be worked, don't always keep the Revs below 2.000.

Regards Tom.
