More likely to get better results with a diesel, personally I'd save my money, just my tuppence worth

Not a Diesel fan, don't do the mileage to justify one.

My local remapper said they couldn't do anything for the V6 petrol (only 2.7 diesel and the supercharged V8) , but these guys appear to offer a 35bhp upgrade for the 2.5 (and a 20bhp for the 3.0), both at £299. From a selfish point of view I'd say go for it and let us know how you get on, this seems some quite cheap horses, and if it works, we can all consider it ;)

It's on my list of things I would like to do in the very near future.

A remap on its own won't gain much unless it's coupled with a decent panel filter and a sports exhaust with maybe a de-cat then you should see the benefits.

Go onto jaguarforum.co.uk and search for user Martin Rowe, he does remaps for all cars and is quite cheap.

Usually gains on non-turbo charged cars are small (in comparison to what you can get out of a turbo'd engine)

I would be suprised to see 20 BHP+ even with the panel filter, adding uprated exhaust and sports cat would see some gains as well but an expensive option.

Would be cheaper to look at swapping the car for a 3.0, extra 40 bhp out of the box ?

My guess would be that the remap would just improve 'driveability' improving throttle response and get rid of any flat spots ?

That's what I'm after to be honest.

Just to throw in my 2 cents worth and maybe go against the general feeling here, i asked a couple of fitters and engineers at work about re mapping my 3.0 v6 petrol and they assured me  they could get me another 25-30 bhp and would "probably" see a slight improvement on fuel consumption. I should add (for those that don't know) this was jaguar fitters and engineers as  i work there.

I agree with Phil, if 20+bhp and a gain in economy was possible, this could be considered well worthwhile. With a panel filter and tweaked exhausts we'd be close to the original V8 output with less weight, and I have a manual, something the V8's didn't. My local chippers don't offer anything for the 3.0 petrol, so I won't be having mine done yet. But I'd be very interested in anyone elses experience, has John decided to take the plunge yet, or even better, does anyone have 1st hand experience?

I found this online which seems largely relevant, I'd be interested in knowing if the poster; Adam / AdzBo was about for comment : http://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s-type-s-type-r-supercharged-v8-x200-15/v6-vs-v8-s-type-72948/

Unfortunately that Ideas on hold at the moment just got made redundant, so other things are more important at the moment I.E setting my own business up.  Worked for enough idiots in my 30yr working life.

Very sorry to hear that John, onwards and upwards, hopefully you'll find something good / better ;)

I drove a very nice 2.5 sport manual that was available locally, but I decided I'd prefer to hold on for the 3.0 and extra 40bhp, I don't regret this decision and while the 3.0 is quick, a little quicker would be nice!

I'm more than happy with the 2.5ltr sport auto it's a brilliant relaxing car to drive.  At the moment if I want something quicker and more livelier I have a V6 MG ZS and that car goes like stink and holds the road brilliantly.  But I can't keep two V6's and I really really like the S Type always wanted one, well for at least 4 years and this one came along at the right price.  When purchasing the S type I knew I might be getting made redundant and I personally felt that turning up for job interviews or meeting clients the Jaguar would be the better car.
