I have just purchased a 2nd-hand 2006 S-Type SE D Autom, but it has a problem with the Rear Parking Sensors.

When in reverse, there is no sound when near to the wall/fence on my drive, but when in drive and neutral, they beep !!

Any ideas what the matter could be please ??

For now, I have disconnected the Parking Assist box in the boot, but I would like to get it fixed as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a fault with the unit,  have you any water entering the boot area ?

My old one made a continuous noise in drive after failing, I replaced it with a one found on E bay, you could try removing your unit and spraying with WD40 or similar but suspect the unit has failed, they are not difficult to remove but i found it easier to remove the spare wheel to gain acess

best of luck

Spannerman - now why does that name ring a bell ?!?!?!

There is a little moisture in the boot where I think the valeters steam cleaned it the other day.

The unit itself does seem sealed OK, but I will try some WD40.

One of the sensors are physically pushed in about an inch on the rear bumper, but the other 3 are OK.

Mine bleep in traffic if i get too close to the car in front or a car gets too close to my rear bumper regardless whether i'm in gear or neutral. I thought that is what they were meant to do. I can switch them off from the roof console.

My front sensors work, as you say, when traffic is too close in front, but I've never had the rear ones operating unless in reverse gear.

I only have read sensors.

I have tried spraying the unit with WD40, but still not working correctly.

I've found a "tested and working" module on e-Bay, but the number on it (4x43-15k866-AE) seems to be for an X-type rather than an s-type, although it;s the same as the one on mine.

Do the models use the same thing ??
