Am proud of my silver S Type and love to drive it.  Looking for a satnav upgrade though as the 2011-2012 satnav disc needs updating.  I may even be looking to retro-fit a new satnav etc - any ideas pls?

HI jackie and welcome to the club.

The 2011/12 disc is the last on produced for the s type.

I am unsure about retrofitting a more up to date Sat nav similar to that in use in later Jaguar Models.

If Raistlin [Paul] spots your post he will advise you, as he is an accomplished retro fitter.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Jackie,

Welcome to the JoC :)

I'm not sure what you were considering as an upgrade?

I did look briefly into installing a satnav from an XE but quickly decided that it wasn't the way I wanted to go. Very expensive, very time consuming and the end result would look anything but OEM, but that's just my view. I'd take a great deal of interest in any similar project though.

We already know that the satnav DVD disk from the XE will not work in the S-Type and I'm not getting anywhere trying to merge the two disks to produce an S-Type disk with up to date maps... probably because my ability as a software engineer is zero

Some have decided to break completely from the OEM system and fit a more modern equivalent from a third party manufacturer. Again, I'd certainly like to see the progress of such projects but at this stage, it's not for me as I like the integration of the OEM system between the audio, Jaguar Voice, bluetooth and satnav. Even iPod is catered for if you fit the audio connectivity module, albeit that module costs as much a a reasonable third party head unit.

If you do decide to go the third party route, please do keep us up to date. As I said, I like the present OEM system but one thing I've learnt over the years is.... NEVER say never

As an afterthought, if I have misinterpreted your post above and you are actually thinking of retro-fitting the OEM touchscreen then, of course, that is eminently doable if somewhat involved. Even so, It will still have the 2012 disk limitation.

Many thanks for the replies - I will continue to ponder the SatNav upgrade, but at the mo it doesn't appear to be a goer.  Still, never say never ..........!!

Hi Jackie,

When I was on holiday in the West of Ireland I visited a club member in Loughrea with a part for his  2009 X Type.  He did not have the touch screen but had a 'phone holder and used his mobile 'phone as a Sat Nav. He maintained it was better and had taken him all over Europe without a problem.

It occurs to me that the new bigger screen 'phones  -  iPhone6+ etc - would do a good job

Regards,

Peter.
