Hey guys, I'm looking to buy an x type 3.0 v6 2001 very Soon.

The problem is that the mot runs out in January and has quite a few items on the advisory list. I'm just wanting to know if it's worth it or would I be able to get away with them for now? Apollo help will be much apoplexies guys.

The list is:

Advisory notice item(s)

Offside Rear Suspension component mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (2.4.A.3)

Nearside Front Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (5.2.6)

Offside Front Seat belt anchorage prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive (5.2.6)

Nearside Front Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Offside Front Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c)

Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2)

Nearside Front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i)

Under-trays fitted obscuring some underside components

Engine covers fitted obscuring some components in the engine bay

Hi Kobir,

Unless you are able to do this work yourself, it could be expensive.

What was on the advisory list last January should really have been sorted out.

It could be possible that in January 2016 you could get a fail in those components.

Just my opinion, though!

Regards,

Peter.

After my last £879 MOT on my X-Type I would be very cautious.. with that amount of corrosion already picked up on, although not detrimental yet, and the exhaust leak it could rapidly approach the cost of my last MOT which was rear shocks, front suspension arm, breather pipe and one sill welded.. would the seller be prepared for you to put it through a pre-MOT check before agreeing a sale to see if anything has changed from advisory to major?

jaguar x type 2003 3.0 V6 auto

121,000 mile had since feb 2015

just gone for MOT and sadly failed, new discs and pads on rear, drop links on front suspension.

but main worry is need to have new sills on both sides as badly corroded, plastic cover inside doors apparently

known for retaining water and corroding fast, past MOT last year year, but the rainy year and damp conditions

have just helped to make things worse

this is my first Jaguar, been a big fan for years. final bill likely to be about £800+

Er'indoors not best pleased, but hey i love my Jaguar

Hi Paul,

That s not a bad price.

If ever mine need doing and my mechanic cannot do it, I will be in touch.  I come to Burton-on-Trent frequently.

Peter.

I'm not understanding why engine covers and under trays would be on the advisory? Sill covers don't get mentioned!
